View Full Version : Vytorin - Sun Sensitivity

Since I've been taking Vytorin (10/40) for about nine months I have a severe sensitivity to the sun, which I have never had before. My face gets very red and sunburns easily. This has never happened before I started taking Vytorin. I do not take any other medications. I have now ceased taking Vytorin in hopes my sun sensitivity will go away.

I have heard that some medications [like antibiotics] can permanently make you sensitive to the sun. I'm hoping that by me taking Vytorin it has not permanently caused me to be sensitive to the sun.

My question is - has anyone else become overly sensitive to sun by taking Vytorin (or any other statin drug), and if so, did stop taking the medication return your sensitivity of the sun back to normal again? Thanks!

I would prescribe an umbrella. You could be facing a choice.... whether you love of the sun more than you love the chance to see a grandchild graduate from college. The Vytorin does make some people more sensitive to sunlight but for me it was the only med that got my blood chemistry in order without far more nasty side effects. I now pass my annual stress tests with flying colors, work out comfortably and I'm going on a kayak run next weekend. I'll be the only guy there in long sleeves and a floppy hat.... I'll also be the only guy there with a heart condition and sixty-nine birthdays behind him.

:) :) :)
