I see alot of questions being ask so i hope this helps...

My brother was a heavy drinker. He must be accountable to that and i will give no excuses for that. But the health care the doctors gave was substandard, uninformative and unacceptable.

He had hicup problems for about a year. He went to the doctor. They gave him medicine but did not help. (Not sure what and i am checking on that)

They also gave him aderol (sp). Why????

He was in the US Virgin Islands from April 15th to July 12th 2007. He had complained of loss of energy and losing weight. We thought it was just the hot weather and all the walking he was doing.

He came back and had lost weight and had a round stomach. His stomach was always flat before. I told him that he looked unhealthy. He was sleeping most of the day, did eat but not much, and still drinking. We thought he might have hepititic from the water.

About the 23rd he turned yellow and I told him to go to the doctor. He went on July 25th to the county clinic. They gave him some Thorizine(sp) for hicups and sent him home.....yes, they send him home to wait on his blood work. (what is wrong with this picture)

On the 30th, they still had not called with the results and we took him to the emergancy room. They placed him right in ICU. It was basicly too late.

He was in full liver failure and by this point only 5% production on the kidney, and he was very unaware of what was going on. They drained the fluid off his stomach until his platletts dropped and he was not able to clot blood.

He went right downhill and they placed him in hospice on august 7th for family to visit before he died. He died on august 9th and be buried him on his 30th birthday. So sad.... The chapel was packed with about 250 people.

This is someone i thought that we would take to the doctor to get medicine and he would be back on his feet. However, he never returned home.

People tell me that he is in a better place. I know that..... I just miss the heck out of him! I miss him dearly. He left two twin 9 yr old neices that cried all through the service. They just don't understand.

Wow...
Just wanted to respond to you.....I feel so bad for you...to lose a brother so young....I actually was going on here ...reading ..because I have a friend who is having major problems with her liver...she came to me..I am her hairsylist and I was in shock..The whites of her eyes were yellow... she isn't a drinker at all...
anyway she called me today because I told her to please start taking milk thistle......that was 6 weeks ago.....the treatments she has been on have not been working...I told her to take 2000 mg in the morning and another at night...Do the docs really want to help...get this..she works in a hospital....she is desperate right now...for her to call me and ask me what it was I told her to take 6 weeks ago speaks volumes...
I can't imagine losing a sibling.....
he was way to young:(

First of all....was your brother being seen by a liver specialist? (My family found out the HARD way that other doctors can give toxic meds to people with liver dysfunction). Find out what meds were given to your brother. You would be SHOCKED at the meds a person with liver failure CANNOT take.
My dad was given moltrin by his general doctor for pain and it put him in a coma. (We found an awesome doc who specialises in liver disease and listened to everything he said, we also researched it ourselves).

I know this can't help your brother now. I am so sorry for your loss. Maybe it will help someone else. Make yourselves aware of what you should and should NOT put in your mouth. When you have liver disease everything is possibly toxic to your system.

Most important: If you have liver disease and you take another drink......you might die. Simple as that. It is a chance everytime. Someone who has liver disease and drinks isn't going to be able to with stand that long.
