Today I went for the intake. Looked around and was stretched to my limits. I ache. Start in a week. Anyone try this? Arobics (no impact) in a hot tub while your whole body is suspended and then the jets at the end.

Hi Dale, I haven't specifically done Wasu myself, but DID do suspended hydrotherapy in the past, and it was GREAT! Being passive through the exercises, and just the "no-load" suspension felt super while it was happening. I did have increased residual pain, as bunches of previously non-worked muscles were really humping during the process. This wasn't any different than the normal response (for anyone) to increased muscle use, and dissipated as muscle tone increased. In short, the 'good' kind of pain.
I missed it when it was over. I'll look forward to living vicariously thru your reports http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Sorry about the cheesy name. I couldn't think of anything. I'm new to this. I have 2 family members that have FM & I myself have just be "diagnosed" with in the last 2 wks. Both cousins says water therapy and chiropractors work best for them. I am just in the "trying to accept it" stage. Still alittle in denial. Can anyone tell me what trigger points are because I was not tested for any of them. I sometimes think they just told me I have FM because they didnt know what I had.

I wish the hot tub was not in the middle of the work out area. The whole place is so hummid and hot. If I were not going into the water I would not go to this place. I am starting to dream about this hot tub theropy. I get to go 3 times a week. I start with 30 visits. Sounds like a lot to me, 10 weeks. Let's hope I can do the 75 minutes. I hope it helps and doesn't kill me. At least the jets are used at the end while suspended on the board in the water. I have been reading about it and it is said to help you get started with movement. The new medicines are helping me and not to soon.

Hi smackliet, I wonder, are Kaiser facilities different (in the treatments they authorize) from state to state?
I ask because, if not for Kaiser, I wouldn't have gotten the majority of help that I have received. It would seem that treatments SHOULD be available to ALL members. Do you get chiropractic, pain management classes, FMS classes, counseling, and stuff like that?
good luck!

I wanted to thank all of you for replying. It is your right as a paitent to get the care and pain relief you deserve. If you are not, ask them about the Paitents responsibilities and the doctors responsibilities sheets, they may call it something different but, they know what you mean. Most have printed out sheet's. If they say they are out ask them to mail it to you and how long will it take to get more. If you don't get it call and call till you do. You may need a new doctor. I can't find my sheets. You can try finding it on the web. I have seen it on a couple medical sites, I think co cure or web med. Sorry, I can't remember. Get a new doctor if you are not getting anywhere. This is all something I have done.

I remember having a bit of hydrotherapy when i first had BAD fms 12 years ago - it relaxed me, and I think it can help long term.
My mom recently oreder me a portable bathtup spa - it's actually a plastic mat that you lay down in the tub and it bubbles all around you. If I'm feeling hypersensitive, it can make me worse, but usually it has made me feel more relaxed. I think it is actually like getting a gentle massage. I used to get regular massage when I was working, but now I would not be able to tolerate a real massage, so this is a great alternative. It's about $99 bucks from chefscatalogue.com, and at that price it's a lot cheaper than physical therapy or even a health club membership.
I haven't been able to exercise much, so I really think this is helpful. It's really nothing but a large hair dryer hooked up to the bathmat. The bonus is that it's also very lightweight and I can actually lift it with no problem (I have trouble lifting a carton of OJ, if you get the picture).
Moist heat is always what the rheumies recommend.

Hydrotheropy is of great help to me with this FMS/CFS stuff. I can go in for an hour and not get too tired 3 x's per week. I can't do the floor routines, maybe in a couple more months. I have found that hydro has helped me the best. Along, with traction. I have done many things and this works great for me. I had told my doc how the pulsating jets in my shower help me feel better and the next thing I knew there was a script in my hand. Cico, ask for it when you go if you want. I have lost weight with little effort. How lazy can I be. Hay, it works! I get stronger, lose weight and relax at the same time. You can not stop moving in hydro, but I don't feel too tired or hurt doing it. It gives me a bit of energy and less pain then before. Good Luck, Kim

Hi,
Hydrotherapy aka bath tub exercises were part of my daily therapy program as a child growing up with cerebral palsy. In the hospital setting it was called hydrotherapy, of course - sounds expensive, doesn't it http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
Now, as an adult, or just an older kid, I still do the tub exercises. I don't have a whirlpool, but what I do use is a whirlpool attachment to my tub. I find the warm water relaxes muscles and also increases range of motion for leg exercises.
Cheers!

Carla sorry to take so long in writing back. I love the hydro it is great and Gary goes to. We have felt so good in there. I will probably go for years. I am glad it helped you.
My girl friend has lost two kids and now has another in a wheel chair one had cancer and died at 18 mos the other had SMA and died at 5 now, his younger brother who is now 13 is dieing the same as his older brother did. But he loves the water theropy and has out lived there prediction so far by 10 years. He does water theropy 3x's a week and is still ammasing all the docs at Dupont hospital. Good luck to you and take care, Kim http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
