 Hey fellow fibromites, does anyone else get this 'girdelling' round their upper abdomen? It feels like I've got a belt on all the time, it varies in intensity and can feel so tight that I feel breathless:( I've had this since day one, before I was diagnosed with fibro. Apologies to all about Blue's thread.:( Any input about this girdlling would be appreciated, Thank you Snoozyowl;)

Hi Snoozy:
I've had pain in my upper abdomen along with costochondritis, but not the tight sensation you are experiencing.
Blessings,

I have not had quite what you are discribing, but can not tolerate anything even remotely tight around my waist. Must wear shorts / slacks etc. that have loose elastic. People think I am crazy when I say my pants waist are tight when they look loose.

 Hey Kirstee and Sunny47, thanks for your replies,:) I can't stand anything tight either or weirdly, even wearing some jumpers or sweaters, all my clothes have to be loose, not many buttons or zips as some days I just can not deal with them, even my footwear depends on wether I can do laces up or not that day. This girdlling isn't exactly painful it's just  THERE! It does feel tighter after a meal, but it just seems to be in a weird place too - a little lower than where your bra goes round, but over the rib cage. Thanks again take care keep well Snoozyowl;)

Hi Snoozyowl, we meet again. I too have this around the ribcage though mostly on one side and strangely when I am sleeping. It wakes me up with pain and tightness and what feels like a vibrating. Even stranger is that I can't move not a muscle, cannot even open my eyes until it subsides. I spoke to my neurologist about it and he says it's something called sleep paralysis often related to narcolepsy. ALSO a symptom of MS. What fun.

I've never heard it called girdelling before, but like everyone else commenting on it, it's weird and annoying. I too have to wear loose clothing, elastic, etc... So much for fashion.. eh? :D

 Hey Everyone, thank you for your replies, Kdel, your discription sounds very different to what I have, you poor love:( I have been told that this 'girdelling' is also a symptom of MS and that is why I'm asking if any other fibromites have it. You see, my doc is saying I have probley got MS, but there isn't enough clinical evidence for the neuro doc to give a definate diagnosis, I have other things like, my right leg drags and won't always do as I want it to, co-ordination is also a prob at times, another coupla symptoms of MS or fibro? I know the dd can imitate and run alongside other conditions, just to make life more unpredictable:confused: Ishla, good job I've never been one for fashion:D , love to see a fibro fashion show!! that would be sooo  Please keep your thoughts coming I do appreciate every one of them. Take care all, try to keep well, Snoozyowl;)

Wow! I finally find someone who knows what I'm feeling! I called it girdling or like having one of those old corsets being drawn tight. I also read that it was also a symptom of MS. I asked about it when I had a neurology consult and he just acted like he didn't understand the term. ??? He also treated MS!
This is my first post here and am so glad I came!

I have never heard of anyone else having this symptom. I never even thought about bringing it up as I thought it was something else. Do the symptoms never end? I guess not. It seems anytime I think of a symptom I will just assume it is the fibro. What else could it be? Hello to all fello fibromites and hope all is well. Welcome to the newbies and glad to have you here.
Gentle hugs to you all
