Hi, I have read this board with great interest but still have some questions sorry!

I have had problems with left eye for three weeks now. The main symptoms are:
Discomfort in Eye especially the corner
Feels Gritty
Stinging
Slight Burning
Have to blink a lot
Eye looks normal no redness
Mild pain not all the time, more in the evening

Went to the Doctor he thought I had an infection even though there was no redness and gave me some cream - did not work.

Went to have eyes tested and apart from my left eye being slightly weaker then the right eye (long sighted) I have always had this, though this time he sugested it may be worth having glasses for PC & Reading. He could not find anything else wrong but did say the eye was dry and told me to get some eye drops and oitment for the eye.

I tried the drops first and this helped a bit and got the oitment yesterday (paraifin) based which seems to be helping. Hard to put in though keeps coming out.

My first question is does this seem to be like Dry eye to you? Also can you get it in only one eye? Last question how long will it last?

Sorry for the long post and the questions but I do worry:confused:

Thank you

The eye doctor I went to for my glasses kept telling me there was nothing wrong with my eyes. I never knew anyone with dry eyes therefore, I just never thought of dry eyes. For 5 years I suffered with everything you describe, the grittyness, burning, (no redness), so I thought it might be my glasses causing my eyes to strain, so I kept going back to the doc, after the last visit there, he said there was nothing he could do for me (he was voted the best in town), never told me my eyes were dry. I found another optometrist and the first thing he said was that my eyes were very dry and gave me samples of drops. It took some time to find the right drops (some left me feeling like there was crust in my eyes) I finally tried alcon preservative free, and after usng them now for 3 years, I almost feel normal. I use 2 drops in the morning and two drops at night. At first I was putting drops in all day long, until they finally stabilzed. There are still some days that they are drier than usual, but I can deal with that now. It makes me so upset that this other supposedly great optometrist never told me my eyes were dry, and I suffered needlessly. Hope this helps you.

I also have a dry eye condition and have red eyelids and crusting also and burning and was or had to pay for Igiene and eye lid cleaner and like it very much . Dry eyes can affect your eyesight also . My eyesigth has gotten better even though I have a high preception of glasses , but my eyes do feel better now . This is on going with age and it will not stop something you will have to live with . I found when I turned 50 I started with the dry eyes and crusting underneath the eye lids .

I was tested for the dry eyes and eye dr asked me questions about my eyes . Hope this helps . Sometimes it is hard to find a good eye dr . I have been though that .

Hope this has helped .

Hello,
I have dry eyes too. The first time it happened 5 yrs ago, pain in one eye. Thought I have cancer, very worried and finally saw a dr. He said was you have dry eyes. just use eye drops. I am so relieved and then sometimes I forget and get pain again, dr says keep putting eye drops 4 times a day.
it is hard to remember. Pain becuase the eye is so dry. SO, I think it is from work, dust, but could be many things.. it happened when I was like 38 yrs old. Uncomfortable at times but I can deal with this.
Recently my eye feels weird, a bump on my eye lip, no red or anything.
I read the kaiser book, they call it styes. hmm, warm compresses and it will go away few weeks. Sometimes my eye feels weird, I do have an appt next week. Dr will probably tell me to keep putting eye drops in. :))
Some people have that problem, some don't.
Take Care....

I think ususally dry eyes it is more of one eye. Mine is always the left one.
Once in a while, feels like sand in my eye. it is all part of dry eye.
Keep using eye drops, much as you can.
Take Care...

Hello Anderson,
It sure sounds like you got a bad case of dry eye.
MIne is always the left one too. Weird.
At times, painful, I don't get itching or redness
Normal part of dry eye is that it sometimes
feel iike I got something in my eye then it goes
away. Try not to itch it. Good thing, never itchy
for me.
There is no cure. I know.... you will have good days
when you keep using eye drops. Stay away from
heater and AC. Also windy days can worsen your
condition.
I would advise you to see a female dr. It happens
to female mostly for some reason. Female doctors
would explain alot better. I always ask for female dr.
Anyway, hope you are feeling better. Dr tells me
to put warm compresss for 2 minutes every morning
first thing in the morning and again before bed.
All the time..... no cure.
You should not have to live with this pain in your eye.
take care......
