a longgg time ago something happened to my both of my thumb nails, and i dont even remember what...but on each nail there are "u" shaped indents that will not grow back. the nail just grew over the skin and i can slip a needle or peice of paper in between the nail and nail bed. it usually collects dirt and stuff so i usually clean it out. but i dont know what to do, i want it to grow back so bad because i am very self conscious about it. i have been for atleast 4 years now. so should i cut the nail away so that it may attach when it grows back? or am i doomed for eternity??

please help..

If the nail plate is not growing in firmly attached to the nail bed by now, it never will. Chances are that you did severe damage to the nail bed. Once this happens, the nail cannot attach to the nail bed and the damage will always be there.
