Hi,
I would so appreciate anyone who has liver problem experience reading this and responding.

I have had right sided lower back, flank, abdominal and pelvic pain and pressure for over 1 1/2 years now. It comes and goes, sometimes bad, sometimes not ther at all. Sometimes when it's bad my right ribs actually hurt.

I've had bloodwork, all normal as recently as January of 2007. Sept. 2006 I had a normal CT scan, July '06 had normal pelvic ultrasound, March '06 had normal abdominal ultrasound. I recently had a small intestine followthrough that was normal. My OB-GYN is considering laprascopic surgery, but I am currently having a symptom that is making me think more it's possibly a liver problem.

My tongue has had a brownish coating on it for 2 weeks. I can brush a little of it off when I brush, but it comes back/ My tongue feels kind of dry too. I don't smoke or drink or take any medications. I've tried brushing it better, switching toothpaste, even chewing fresh pineapple, but it's still brown. It slightly feels like it's burning too, but not real bad yet.

Should I go back to the doctor and request more searching into liver problems? I don't know if the back pain goes along with it. I have no jaundice. I never have been a drinker or used illegal drugs.

Also, I had my gallbladder out in 1993, so maybe my liver is overworked????

I've never heard of a brown tongue being a symptom of liver disease. The location of your pain sounds more like your kidneys than liver.

I'm on antifungal meds for my brown tongue. Don't know how I would have developed an oral fungus, or even if that's what it is. But the doctor did blood tests to check my liver again. He said that even if my blood counts were normal at the beginning of my pain (1 1/2 years ago), eventually they would go up if I had a liver problem. My liver counts were low, so I guess it's not my liver??! Please, has anyone else had this problem and had it be liver. I really don't know what else it could be as the GI doc didn't think it was GI related.

Linda36 is right.

I've had kidney issues, and pain in the back/flank are usually kidney related.

Liver pain would be just below your ribs, slighty to the righthand side.

IMO the pain you describe can't be liver related.
