I just sat for my LPN boards on Friday and found out I passed yesterday. :) I am very happy because when I left the testing center I really had no idea if I passed. I felt as though I had failed. Does everyone feel like that? I am glad I decided to do this though because it gave me a taste of what the RN boards will be like. I will sit for them in Decewmber of '08.

Congratulations! what area do you work in? Or if not working what would you like to do? I work in a nursing home and do pediatric home care. (I'm and LPN)

I currently do not work in the healthcare field altough I do have a second interview Thursday at a nursing home. I would eventually like to work in the hospital that this home is affiliated with. I am not sure what area yet. So many choices. I have not really experienced a clinical rotation that I thought Oh I love this floor. I have liked them all equally up till this point. I still have three semesters to go so maybe it will become clearer to me at some point. I'm in the part-time program because I needed to continue working. How many hours a week do you work between the nursing home and the ped home care? Do you like the home care?

Sorry I have been around the boards lately. Im going to school to be an Rn and work 2 jobs. I work full time at a nursing home and just a few shifts a month for the Bayada agency. I want to get some pediatric experience and not just have geriatric experience. I make just as much and take care of a 16 year old boy with traumatic brain injury and it is definitely less stressful in the home environment. The only thing is sometimes the family is breathing down your neck .The nursing home is so stressful but good experience.
What job did you end up taking?

Hi jacksinn. Well, the nursing home offered me the job and I took it. I was sooo excited to start. I agreed to work full-time for the first month to get oriented which damn near killed me. Just this week I am back to part-time... thank goodness. I don't know how you do it. Working full-time and going to school is very hard. You must be very disciplined. I guess if I HAD to do it I would but I don't so... I like the nursing home OK but I don't plan on doing this long term. I want the hospital experience. I have waited until my kids were older to go back to school and worked my tail off for the last six years so I think I deserve it. I have only worked at the nursing home for a month now and I can see how much BS there is already. Do you think it is like that in the hospital? Or does it just depend. My best friend is a nurse in Az. and she says it is not like that at the hospital she works at. I am speaking specifically of the insubordination of the aides and the refusal by some RN's to do certain things like digital rectal exams. It's very frustrating and disheartening. What do you want to do when you get your RN? And how long till you get your RN? I have one more year after this semester. I have been going to school for six years for a two year degree...ridiculous. LOL
