So Ive spent countless hours reading abt this virus. And from what I can remember certain things affect women and men differently? Like medicines and ointments ...
So I guess my question would be for the females, what helps? I will not use perc drugs. Im vegetarian and everything I eat/use is organic. Im looking for natural remedies. Things that help you.... something to try!! Thanks

You want input??
Be patient. Maybe the people who read it just don't have the answer you want!!
Sometimes it takes a couple days...
I can tell you to eat Nachos, but I don't think that's what you want to hear! :)
While you are waiting, try reading some past posts. There are lots of comments from lots of different people about therapies that they have tried.

I'll be honest and say that I have tried many things in the past that have not helped much. Herpes is different for everyone, so you'll have to try experimenting.
As of now, I follow a pretty good routine. I sleep in guys boxer shorts which allow me to air out so there's no moisture (sorry about the graphics!!) and wash them every time I wear them. In the mornings I take a shower and I wash below with a non-scented old-fashioned lye soap (works miracles for an itch!) which I ONLY use there, and I don't dry there with a towel. I wipe that area dry with toilet paper so as not to transfer any moisture to my towel (so to avoid spreading anywhere!) and then wash my hands before I start getting ready for whatever. If I feel like I'm about to have an outbreak, I dilute tea tree oil with water and apply it topically to wherever I need to. It seems to work pretty well.
As for supplements, I take a women's immune system multi-vitamin, L-Lysine, and fish oil. I've heard that helping your immune system is the best fight, so that's what I focus on. Hope this helps some!!

Nachos actually dont sound half bad. Sorry if that post sounded impatient, just trying to get some advice. I've read tons of posts on here, and have taken a bit from each of them. I guess I was just trying to get women specific answers. Whats worked, what hasnt so I know what to try. I didnt even know where to start. Thanks for the reply though.

I always start with Ben and Jerry's, specifically Chunky Monkey. It heals everything!! :)
Truly, I'm really new at this, and tend to be less holistic than many as a rule. I've read a lot about the Lysine on this site tho'...
Good luck! (And try the Ben and Jerry's!!)

Hi,
I also eat very healthy and try to do organic on veggies and fruits. I don't like taking medicine (non homeopathic) unless nothing else works.
I did some research a couple of years ago and found that foods can help or hurt your chances of an outbreak. Stay away from chocolate and walnuts. I know you are a vegetarian but when you feel an outbreak coming eat flounder. It works. I don't take any medications for it. If I eat flounder right when I feel an outbreak coming on it never gets past the hard area that begins forming. If I was a day late eating the flounder I might get the blister but it doesn't seem to hurt because it starts going away. Even if the blister doesn't form because I ate the flounder I still won't have sex with my husband for about a week. He doesn't have herpes so far.
Fish in general help but especially flounder when it's an outbreak that's coming on. I read about this somewhere. It has to do with 2 different properties that you need to balance. Walnuts and chocolate contain the bad property and certain fish contain the good ones.

Flounder? Yikes. Guess I'll have to start liking seafood. And learning how to cook it.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Ok. So, Chunky Monkey ice cream (my catch all solution), has both walnuts and chocolate. I don't particularily like fish. :)
I'm cursed!!
Actually, this sounds kind of cool - any idea what those properties were?? Maybe they are available elsewhere...??

So I just checked myself out after getting out of the shower. And I noticed there were more bumps. Friday night when I noticed the first two they were just red bumps that hurt. Then they started to itch. And then a few days ago (maybe 3) another small bump showed up on my pelvic area, below my waistline but higher than my vagina. Well now, I just noticed some clear, very small clusters of like 5 or 6 bumps around my initial oubreak area.
Is that normal? For them to just keep showing up? Or is that me spreading them when I wipe and stuff??
I thought I was doing good. I apply tea tree oil during the day after I use the bathroom and pat dry. Then Vitamin E when I go to sleep at night. And I always wash my hands. I thought I was being pretty careful.

Hi Veggie -
These symptoms are different than I got, so I can't advise on whether it's normal. I know that during my outbreak I put up a post asking whether it was possible to spread a sore to another area by wiping, by using pads instead of tampons, etc. The general consensus I got was "No", so I'm thinking perhaps it's just an "ongoing" outbreak, as opposed to you spreading the sores.
I did read during my research that for a first outbreak you can essentially have a second outbreak "piggybacking" on the first. Sort of one extended outbreak that lasts up to 5 weeks. (I don't think you ever said if this is your first OB or not...) As you know, there is a lot of information out there, and who knows whether this is true or not - I'm sure someone who knows better than me will tell you!!
But I don't think the sores are spreading...

By the way, Catharine, I posted a good lysine/arginine listing if you have the inclination to read it. Lysine and arginine are amino acids, building blocks of DNA, and arginine is essential to the replication of the herpes virus. If lysine can get in there, and block the arginine, the virus can't reproduce, so this slows or maybe even stops shedding as well as OBs. Flounder (2818/1837) is ok. Cheese and lamb are better.

Well I decided I finally need to go to a Dr. I know you guys say that to everyone. But This just keeps getting worse. More blisters every time I turn around.
Wish me luck.

I think that's the best decision. Make sure you ask the MD to type it. You may have to go to a lab that has a phlebotomist on duty (person who draws blood for testing). But the test can be run from the stuff inside one of the blisters. And ask the doctor to write you a scrip for Valtrex. It's an antiviral and it will be a bonus in the first year when the virus seems to be having a field day with your body. Getting adequate rest is important too.

I cant seem to remember, but are flu like symptoms common? Headache, bodyache, feverish. Im experancing all those tonight. Sucks.
I made an appt for next week. Thats the soonest they could see me. So I'll be suffering untill then!
Another Q?: Is it possible for me to be having an allergic reaction to the tea tree oil? Ive been racking my brain trying to figure out why Im getting so many of the tiny clear blisters. There just seems to be one or two more every time I look, and I didnt notice them untill I started using the oil. I duno, just looking for some piece of mind!

Hey Veggie -
The flu like symptoms are VERY common. Whether or not it's indicative of first exposure or first OB I'm not sure. I put up a post a while back, but there wasn't a response, so I'm guessing that the issue is up for debate.
My personal opinion is that the fluey symptoms are indicative of first EXPOSURE - in the same way you may get an OB after a few days, you may also get these symptoms. Like you, I got feverish and achey several days after I noticed the first lesions.
The other option is that they are symptoms of first OUTBREAK. Meaning for those who have "carried" the virus for years, if they get an OB eventually the first one would be accompanied by these symptoms.
Either way, the symptoms are common and expected. It does suck, and since you don't like medications even a Tylenol won't help you!! :(
As for the tea tree oil - I don't use it myself. But everyone's body reacts in different ways to different treatments. I'd say it's certainly possible that you are reacting badly to it, if your OB got worse when you started with it. That acceleration of your OB may just be coincidental, but why don't you stop with the oil for a few days and see what happens??
Cheers

Thanks for the reply! The flu symptoms seemed to have gone now. I was feeling very achy and such earlier. Not so much anymore. I havent used the oil since this morning. Im def gonna give it a rest and see if thats what caused the extra blisters.

Hey again!
Luckily, the itch was never an issue for me. But Oceanus recommended to someone a little while ago straight aloe vera jelly. I use this as well on other skin stuff, and it IS very soothing, and cool.
If it's super bad, try an ice pack. Sounds wierd I know, and excuse the visual I'm going to give you now. I've had only one yeast infection in my life, and so for the longest time I didn't know WHAT it was. Until it was diagnosed, I found that sometimes just a cold washcloth in the offending area helped diminish the irritation. It might work for this too...
I'm sure there are lots of others out there who deal with this more, and will have more suggestions for you...

I take Red Marine Algae, which supports the immune system to fight viruses. There was a study which showed that Red Marine Algae caused a reduction in the infectivity of the herpes virus.

You know what sucks (and excuse the visual) is having to reopen healing sores every time I use the bathroom and have to take down my undies!!!!!! OUCH!!!
