I hope it is appropriate to ask this on this message board, if not I apologize up front. We are friends with a family whose 14 year, very sports oriented daughter, was involved in a car accident and is recovering from a broken back, spleen problems, etc. We are wondering if anyone has had to be bedridden for an extended period of time and if there are any suggestions of an appropriate gift that might help her pass some time. I am sure she will tire of TV, computer, books but after that we just don't know.

Netflix subscription, magazines, handheld games, and lots of one on one time with friends even if they bring over ice cream or some type of dessert to eat with her or watch a good movie with.

Maybe some prepaid cell phone minutes? I know it's not so creative, but a 14 year old has much to keep up on. Who has what pimple and such... ;)
If she has a laptop, maybe some photo/scrapbooking software to make pages for herself or friends?
Cute pj's are always fun, too.
Maybe someone to come to the house and paint her nails cute? I'm 34 and I did that for myself when I had surgery. I figured I'd be looking at my toes a lot for a while...
It's great you're thinking of her. It will mean a lot to her.

When my son was laid-up, he couldn't live without his Gameboy. My daughter was attached to her MP3 player and drawing materials. Books are difficult, especially if painkillers are involved. (I'm an avid reader and I couldn't read more than a short article when I was hospitalized.)

Does she cross stitch or knit or crochet? What about some of these new bead kits? They are easy to do and will give her something that she can wear or share...
What about books on tape? That would be easy to listen to and should keep her interest... seek and find puzzle books, cheap but fun, coloring books with new crayons, Hey everyone likes new crayons! LOL.....
New eye shadow just for fun, hair junk for messing around with....
