I have suffered from moderate depression for many years now. I am now beginning to wonder if this is down to a wheat intolerance. I usually follow a pretty healthy diet, however this past week (because I was on holiday) I ate more bread, biscuits etc, my mood is worse. I intend to cut out (or down drastically) for a few days to see if there is a difference.
Has anyone else noticed this or are the symptoms more likely to be physical ?
I also noticed that if I eat for example, pasta and garlic bread or pitta bread together, my heart speeds up and I feel slightly unwell for a brief period. I also find it hard to lose weight, I am not overweight my BMI is okay but I seem stuck just over where I'd like to be.
Any comments gratefully accepted ! :)

Hello!! Nice to meet you. wheat is one of those main allergy foods and it can definately be related to depression.
I have a long list of food allergies and have now cut all of those foods out of my daily diet and feel much better. when i was eating normal food.... by this i mean junk food, fast food etc i was very depressed, and had severe reactions that appeared on my skin as pimples/rashes, stomach and gastrointestinal problems etc... however wheni cut out those foods and started eating more healthily i didnt feel as depressed and the symptoms have now receeded.
I was mainly depressed when i ate carbohydrates, any form of bread, white pasta, white flour etc. cutting these foods out of my diet has greatly improved my skin and my depressive ways. i am now more energetic and happier.

I hope this helps. im here if you need any advice or anything,

L

Yes, as allergic2foods said, a wheat allergy can definitely cause your symptoms.

It's possible that it's the yeast used in breads, but if you also don't tolerate pasta, it is most likely the gluten. Those who can't tolerate gluten at all are said to have Celiac Disease. You might want to do some reading on the topic.

Good luck!
