View Full Version : Surgery options and experiences for extreme myopia (-8.00)?

Hello, what are my options (if any) for correction of -8.00 myopia? I haven't personally consulted a doctor yet, but I've heard LASIK is not recommended due to potential for glaucoma.

What about PRK? Or are any other options available? Has anyone gone through a similar experience?

Thanks.

A new option for severely myopic people is a lens implant. When your healthy lens is retained, the implant is called a Phakic ICL Lens implant. The natural lens can olso be removed and replaced with an artificial one. This isn't necessary in a young patient with healthy lenses.
This surgery does not have to be permanent. The lens can be removed or changed, if necessary. From what I read, this procedure is recommended for myopes who should not have laser surgery.
Sounds right up your alley.
