I have met some friends who have told me they have herpes and who don't want to take Valtrex daily, but my doctor recommends it. I take it every day. I don't have OBs anymore. They say they will only take it when they feel an OB coming on. To be honest, I am not about to reveal to anybody that I have herpes, even though they are telling me, so I not going to ask them why they don't want to take it. But I am very curious why anybody would resist this medication, particularly if they are having OBs all the time. It works, and I have health insurance picking up most of the tab, but are there some side effects other people have encountered that I am not aware of? Anybody have some info?

It is personal preference but I think if you get 6 or more OB a year, you'd want supressive theapy. If you get it less than 3 or 4 times a year and ob's are pretty mild, you may only take valtrex as needed.
I don't think it is a fear of side effects issue it is just what it right for your symptoms.
