I was just wondering what medications other people are taking, if any, and if so are they working well? The only drug I have taken is Proxac (60ml) and it seems to work well, although there are times where the OCD wins. Thankfully those times represent maybe 10% max of the total so I'm normally pretty solid.
I hear alot of people talk about Luvox, or Lexapro, but not too many people talk about Prozac. I'd love to hear from others.
By the way, my OCD has always been more of a Pure-O type of thing as opposed to the outward compulsions regularly seen i.e. handwashing, checking, etc, although those have shown up in very, verty small forms at one time or another, but I've been able to dismiss them pretty easily.
Good thoughts to everyone.

I take Lexpro (30ml) and it seems to help for the anxiety, but not so much with crazy thoughts and obsessions.. I think that thearpy is the best way for the thoughts and stuff.. I have the Pure-O version of OCD and it really is bothersome, but I'm in thearpy and hoping this will help. It seems like the only problem with my anxiety going down it sometimes makes my ocd thoughts worse because then I seem to tell myself that I now like/don't care about the thoughts and then were back to square one.. I hope this helps and good luck to you!!!!

Hi Mand,
I take Luvox for my OCD which is pure O also with a little bit of counting rituals, but nothing to major. The luvox works well with me. I've tried to come off it a few times but always relapse. I too have had some obsessive thoughts while on Luvox which tend to last maybe a day or two, but I can normally distract myself so that they are not to bothersome. I had a bit of a relapse a few weeks ago as I reduced my dosage to 200 mg as I was pregnant. Unfortunatly I miscarried and my OCD kicked in and I had to increase back to 300. I'm feeling OK, but not quite 100 % just yet. I have nothing but good things to say about Luvox...it works well for me but might not work well with others. With SSRI meds its a hit and miss with most....luckily mine was a hit from the beginning 14 years ago....Hope to hear from you!!
Hope and Huggs.

Do medications also work to take away compulsions i.e. the need to feel like doing something over and over again?

I am on Paxil, I just started it. I took it years ago and it worked. I realized I needed it again so I went back on it.

Hello, mandmcv,

I took Prozac for year and years; for me, it didn't help except with agoraphobia. But I never was able to tolerate a high dosage.

Luvox and Lamictal have worked wonders for me, absolutely. I also have Xanax prn for bad times.

Hope this helps, greetings to you, too.

OCDHATER - in what respect did it help you? I was on Zoloft years ago for depression, but didn't even know back then what OCD was. I probably was exhibiting some symptoms of OCD, but at the time, more depression than anything else. If I did have OCD, my symptoms weren't bothersome. I'm having a current episode of anxiety or OCD or whatever the heck it is and was curious if I needed to get on some medication. I am seeing an OCD specialist, but just started. I'm very interested on comments about what it does for compulsions - do they go completely away or get better?
