FYI How To Do Healing Touch Therapy
Healing Touch is free and it works, so I'll just keep putting this out on the Group. I've been using it for years and take only about 3 Extra strength Excedrin for pain.
Healing Touch, like many therapies, deals with the energy fields that surround the body. Unlike any other therapy that I have tried or read about, it deals with the concept that there are areas where pain is concentrated and almost everyone of these areas has a corresponding area on the other side of the body that is also sore, or feels "different" or "not right" [my terms.] These two points are connected and resting the fingertips on both areas at the same time somehow eases the pain and inflammation to promote healing.
I found a chiropractor who used this technique and I watched him very carefully and asked a million questions. I observed that what he did was very simple and anyone could do it.
Healing Touch
It works very on types of inflammation such as FM, arthritis, sprains, menstrual cramps, over-used muscles, irritable colon and even on chest colds...
The Basics: You can use a partner (easier) or work on yourself (handier at times)
Rule One: 95% of the time every sore spot, will have a corresponding area that will be painful or just feel "not right." The spots are usually across from one another, but may be at a diagonal. For example a trigger point on the shoulder blade may have a corresponding spot on the chest, the other shoulder blade. Search the entire area before giving up on finding the second spot.
Rule Two: If you are working with a partner, try to find your own sore spots if you can reach them -- it hurts less if you do it.
Rule Three: If you can’t find a corresponding spot use the Crown of the head. As the highest of the Chakras, it works just fine
Rule Four: Place the fingertips of the hands gently on the sore spots. For example, place the fingertips of one hand on the shoulder blade and the fingertips of the other hand on the chest. (A partner helps, but you can work on any areas that you can reach.) Hold them gently while the person receiving the healing holds their breath. Frequently you can feel a "connection" between the two spots. Use this as a guide you to make sure you have the right spots. If you have a lot of sore areas in the same location you may have to experiment. You should work on all the sore spots (if you can) before moving on to a different location.
Rule Five: Holding your breath pushes the body into anaerobic metabolism which seems to speed up the process, but is not mandatory. If you can’t hold your breath -- don’t. If you do hold it, let it out when you need to. Press gently on the spots, if they still hurt, breathe a minute, then hold your breath again. Repeat until the pain is better. Stop after three tries and come back to that spot if you need to.
Rule Six: Check your chest for sore spots. Frequently, working on the chest seems to ease the general aches and pains. Sometimes I find that if my chests has sore spots and feel tight, being worked on lets me breathe deeper and this seems to ease the pain. It may be that
sometimes our bodies are not properly oxygenated because it hurts too much to breathe normally, something we may not even notice.
Rule Seven: Sometimes the spot being worked on seems to hurt more. It shouldn’t hurt a lot more. If it does, you may be pressing down too hard, or that spot may be too sore to work on. Leave it and come back later or the next day. *Never* do anything that really hurts!!! However, if you can stand it, work on the sore spot and it will help the pain. Remember you are just touching it and not pressing so you can’t be doing any physical damage.
Rule Eight: You can do it with your clothes on. Since it's energy, fabric is not a barrier.
Rule Nine: You can make up your own rules. Use any position that is comfortable. Do the therapy as often as you like. The only rule appears to be that you must touch the corresponding sore spots.
Rule Ten: Healing continues even after treatment. Expect to keep getting better. I love this benefit.
I hope some of you try this. It honestly does work.
Peace,
Jane

Hi Jane, thanks for the refresher! I had posted similarly on the "old" board, and have since forgotten this marvelous technique! Gotta http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/love2.gif that old fibro fog http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dizzy.gif. As I've since learned other things, the sucessful techniques I've used in the past tend to get misplaced and forgotten.
That's what makes this board so doggone wonderful! Everything continues to go :round:
Thanks,

Copper, I remember corresponding with you. I'm glad to know you found that this works. It's funny that I can get very few people to try it, even though many of the ones who do write back and tell me they got relief.
I wonder if it's because it's free, low tech and too simple.
Oh, well. I do hope someone tries it. Hang in there, Copper and keep up the good work.
Peace,
Jane

Energy fields around the body? Are there any studies conducted in a scientific manner that demonstrate such phenomena? The health and wellbeing of those of us with Fibro are very much affected by suggestions we receive, so we should be careful to help each other with approaches that have been subjected to studies, double-blind or otherwise. Or more briefly, why do you think that this approach does anything and why has it gone unnoticed by the AMA? I'm not trying to start a fight, but I hope on this site that we are willing to debate and discuss our views openly. Al

Well, Al, I agree.. That and the mind guy's posts too!!
My question is if it is so good, why are we all on here??? Ha Ha.. No offense, really I swear, it's just...Never mind..
I do however believe that this person is hitting on something as far as maybe, meditating and awareness factors...etc..
The only touch I need is God's, but if touch therapy works for you, YOU GO GIRL!! I am glad for you. I don't see any thing wrong with letting people know what works for you.. It may help somebody else...As for me, well, I'll have to see some stuff on it.. Email me a website or something!!
We can start from there!! At least you seem to be sincere, so I am willing to read!!

Hi Allen and lj, i find your responses curious - though, i'm with you, Allen, i think this is a wonderful format for friendly debate.
When i hear of things that require i put something in me (like meds, herbs, etc), i, too, want scientific evidence. Or if it is something that costs $$, i want proof that it works. But, when something is totally non-invasive, free, and easy to do, i'm all game to try it. If it isn't going to cause further pain, or flares, i'm pretty game, too. If it just happens to work, i don't give a squat what research says. Alot of complimentary or alternative healing techniques work because of the intention behind them, if nothing else. You know, kinda like faith healing. My own success with this technique was nothing to write a book about, and didn't cure anything. But, i have experienced temporary relief from, at least, some of the intensity of the pain we feel from FMS. Like i said, it didn't last forever, but i'll settle for every pain-free milisecond i can find!
your thoughts?
