I've suffered through rectal pain for a few years now and finally went to doc for a diagnosis. After a complete history and exam, the doctor diagnosed my problem as levator ani and suggested that it may have been caused by muscle or nerve damage resulting from previous abdominal and pelvic surgeries. He suggested the use of ibuprofin and Flexeril (a muscle relaxant) to ease the pain. My problem is this ... Ibuprofin does nothing to help and the Flexeril helps some (but not alot) but it makes me VERY sleepy so I can only take it at night.
I have done some research on the net and have read about biofeedback and rectal massage as possible treatments for this condition. Has anyone ever had either of these treatments and did it help? I would appreciate any feedback that anyone might provide. Thanks!
