View Full Version : How do I switch anti depressants?

Im currently on 100mg sertraline. My dose was upped from 50mg to 100mg about 4/5 weeks ago. Ive not really noticed a difference in my moods and it the increased dose certainly hasnt helped at all.

My question is this. Before I was prescribed Sertraline, I was first prescribed Citalopram however after taking just 1 pill felt so awful. I am now thinking of trying the Citalopram again as my gP firstly said this was a stronger anti depressant. How do I switch? do I simply stop taking one and start the other the next day? Any help appreciated.

Citalopram is an SSRI, and so is sertraline, so i think because they are the same type of anti-depressant It should be fine to just start taking citalopram straight away BUT always talk to your doctor about med changes.

I am on citalopram, and it has worked quite nicely although i'm changing to prozac soon. do give it a chance as it will take a while to take effect, it was about 2, 3 weeks for me.

Talk with your doc. Anti depressants are too complex to experiment with.
