View Full Version : Hello! I just got diagnosed with Fibromyalgia today

I have been to almost every "ist" doctor there is. Today I saw a Rheumatologist and he is running a couple of more blood tests to make sure that there isn't some other disease going on but he thought it probably was Fibro.

I have 3 children- 26 years, 17 years and 3 years old. I am 45 next week. After the birth of our little surprise, I have never been the same. Since the beginning of this year I saw a serious decline in my health. Everything started falling apart. About 3 months ago I couldn't get up off of the couch and I had pain all over my body. That is when my journey to doctors offices began and 2 ER visits.

I take Premarin (I had a hysterectomy last year), Lexapro (since my daughter's birth 3 years ago), and Hydro Cortizone Tablets due to low cortisol. I see the Endochronologist (sp?) tomorrow and we are going to evaluate if I need to stay on the Hydro Cortizone because I passed a 1 hour blood test.

The Rheumatologist prescribed me Lyrica today and I am going to do a slow taper on it to see if I can tolerate it. He also prescribed Rozerem to help me sleep.

Thank you for reading my story! This seems like a great board and I look forward to sharing information here.

 Hey Mariesmom, warm welcome to you, yeh you will find loads of info, tips, advice and we welcome loads of Qs coz we all learn from the answers. Remember, you are not alone, we've all been there with the tests etc, what works for one, may not work for another, don't give up, don't lose heart:) there is also a lot of support on here as well, if you want to vent bout fibro and all its lovely little oddities, go for it, we don't mind and the chances are you will receive so many posts from the rest of us, you'll end up feeling so much better:D One important thing we've all learnt is that STRESS is our biggest enemy, fibro loves stress, it will feed on it and spew out PAIN PAIN PAIN:( Our ages range, like yourself I'm 45 years and I admit it's been really tough for me to accept all the changes I'm having to do, everything from my job to hobbies, ain't there yet, got a way to go, but what's the alternative? so I go with the flow and do what I can, when I can, how I can and take each day as it arrives. Enough of the doom and gloom hee hee, you have found friends Marie, nice to have met you, look forward to your next post, take care, keep well hugs Snoozyowl

Hi Mariesmom,
I only joined a few days ago and I got a lovely warm welcome.
I'd say sorry to hear of your diagnosis but sometimes I think it comes as a relief that you're not going mad. At least you can get help now, well what there is anyway.

Hey Mariesmom, I'm also new to the board, but not to fibro. I know you're still reeling from the news...hang in there. Even though fibro may not get "better" learning how to cope with it and making lifestyle changes will help a lot over time. Like Bouncy, finally finding out what was wrong with me was a good step. At least you can give people a name for it when they think it's all in your head. :) Good luck at the drs.

 Hey my fellow fibrobabes, being able to put a name, finally, to all the pain, fatigue and other oddities that fibro brings with it, is a relief. I was dxed in Feb 2007, unfortunately there was other bits and bobs going on as well, probabley MS and a definate benign brain tumour, nicknamed Fred, coz the word tumour is soooo dramatic and people immediatley, in their minds, put you in a wooden box:dizzy: But it did explain an awful lot of things that had been going on, so now, although I don't always know what condition is causing what prob for that day, I'm determined to get on with it and figure out and concentrate on what I can do, not the things I can't, it's hard, very hard as I'm still mourning the loss of certain things, but hey ho! Chatting to my fellow fibromites really helps get things in prespective. I never feel alone, in the short time I've been visiting these boards so many people have joined. Its so great to be able to exchange tips, advice etc, it's like belonging to a club. So I look forward to catching up with you all soon, take care, keep well, big fluffy fibro hugs Snoozyowlxx;)
