View Full Version : Vitamin deficiencies

Hi there, I am new to this board. I have what they call "vigorous reflux," LPR, IBS, and problems with the motility of my esophagus.

I didn't eat for long periods of time (such as when my cat died), that is how I ended up in this mess.

I was wondering, what is the best way to check for vitamin deficiencies? My PCP told me that I don't have any. But, this is IMPOSSIBLE since I didn't eat for long periods, my eyes burn, and I have sores where my lips meet. So I must at least have a B12 deficiency.

Is there a better way to check then to get a CBC test??

I'm new to this board too but not LPR. I've been told that the ppi's cause vitamin deficiencies. I recently had complete blood test and learned I had a vitamin B def. I noticed that I'd get cracks at the corners of my mouth. Dr. told me just to buy OTC Vitamin B12 and start using it, which I did and notice a difference. Seems I may have a little more energy too. Wouldn't hurt you to try using OTC and see if it helps. I know what you mean about not wanting a complete blood panel. Hate them and they cost a fortune even with ins.

Flowagirl72--It does sound like you *might* have a B-12 dificiency. These things are nothing to mess with. As for getting a CBC that doesn't show B-12, it's a standard blood profile. If I were you I would get a CBC and an (Anemia Panel=B-12, Folate, Ferritin, Iron package), It's simple and you will know. I would also not start taking B vitamins until this is checked because It will change the test results and you won't get a true picture. I have learned the hard way, I myself have been fighting anemia for 7mo's, unable to work or do anything for most of that time. You can click over to the anemia boards for more information. You will see that what I am saying is TRUE! Good luck and let us know how you get along. FLFLOWERGIRL
