Just had my tests done two weeks ago and my lipid profile is fine and in a very good range. I was wondering what may have caused my HDL to go from 54 to 42 after one year. I did not make any changes over this past year with my supplements, diet and working out. I am still trying to figure out why my HDLdropped30%.

Are you on statins? I can't remember. I am also seeing a reduction of a few points over a 3 month period. I'd like to stay at my present level, if I can't manage an increase in HDL. I hope it does not drop any further. Statins are known to reduce our good cholesterol.

Hi flowergirl2day,
I am currently taking 1,200mg Red Yeast Rice twice daily which is sort of a natural statin. Other than that I have been taking Omega 3 fish oil 5,000mg daily, lecithin 1,200 mg 6 a day, Aged Garlic Extract 2,000mg twice day, Green Tea Extract 500mg twice day. I have been on this regimen for the past three years and has worked very well for me.

Thanks for sharing that, Arizona! :)
I am on similar supplements, drink the green tea, do not take the lecithin (yet). If the drop is not diet-related, I'd bet on my Lipitor being responsible for the drop. Not too sure about the effect of the red yeast rice on the HDL levels. Hopefully someone out there can tell us.

Hi FG,
As Red Yeast Rice goes it is mildly effective in lowering LDL and reducing Trig. As HDL is concerned it is not known to have any significant impact that I am aware of. In addition, I have found out it is not wise to take Red Yeast Rice with any statin medications. Combining both can be extremely dangerous as Red Yeast Rice acts as a natural statin. Lecithin has helped me out a lot. Also Grape Seed Extract can help a little bit lowering your LDL. Grape Seed Extract is excellent for cardio vascular health and I take 200mg a day as well. Likewise I drink green tea daily. I stopped drinking coffee three years ago and made the switch to green tea. Has been much better :)
