I have been anemic for the past 4 years and have also had every procedure under the sun to remedy the situation minus a lower double-balloon endoscopy and actual surgery. A camera capsule test did find an ulcer somewhere in the ileum however it cannot be pin pointed and there as been no luck reaching it with a standard colonoscopy.
Has anyone out there heard of a case like this and if so what can be done about it. I am beginning to think that being anemic is something I am going to have to accept long term.

GotIron--My mom recently had bleeding but they were unable to find. When they checked the small bowel they did a different type of test, I don't know the name of it off hand. I think it was some kind of drink and x-ray that can take up to 5 hrs. Maybe you have had this one already??? Perhaps a different test is called for. Good luck. Keep us posted.

What type of anemia do you have? FLFLOWERGIRL:)

i have iron deficiency anemia. My latest blood work had me with a hgb of 7 and an hcc of 21% and intestinal bleeding has been confirmed

GotIron--I was wondering if this other type (Fluro something maybe?)test might be able to find the mystery place? Does that sound like something that you've had already? I'm sorry that your numbers are so low. I hope that you are getting lots of iron or blood at least. FLFLOWERGIRL:)

Thanks for your concern, I've had the infusions which help raise the stats a bit. Unfortunatly i can't handle the over the counter iron supplements.
The only thing I have had that was done with x-ray were a couple of ct scans w/ the barium. I think it was to test for crohn's or at least a bad section of the bowel. Both test were inconclusive.

They found bleeding from the small bowel area with me but when I swallowed the camera for the second time it had stopped. My ferritin was 3 and it jumped to 54 after taking feosol for 2 months so my gastro doctor was happy with that. My problem is still elevated liver enzymes and after many tests they cannot find out why.
