I am a male 24 y/o 5'8. I was weighing about 187 +/- a pound or so pretty consistently on the digital scale at my gym. I want to get back down to 175 so 3 weeks ago I started lifting weights for about 45 minutes and doing 20 minutes of cardio aftwards. I drink about half a gallon of water a day and keep my sodium level in check. I keep my calories around 2200. Sunday I weighed 187.2 which was no surprise. Wednesday I was 193 which had me confused. Before my workout today I am 196. How is it I have gained this much weight in less than a week? This scale has always been consistent for me. With a 2200 calorie diet I shouldn't be gaining significant muscle plus 9 pounds of muscle is impossible in a 5 day time. The only explanation I can think of is water weight but even that sounds strange to me. Any ideas?

I was also going to suggest water weight since that happens to me every now and then, but that would be weird since you are keeping an eye on your sodium and are drinking your water. Do you FEEL like you are holding in any water? Usually I can feel it in my stomach and I feel bloated and fatter when I have extra fluids in me. Try drinking some low calorie or diet green tea... it will help you get rid of excess fluids (makes you pee a lot!) just in case that's what it is. Or have you changed any eating habits? I know if I eat too much fiber I gain water weight and bloat up a lot.
