View Full Version : Could The Problem Be The Cinnamon?

I know that a lot of us are trying and using many different "supplements" to try and avoid going on statins. I took statins for years with no problems...then developed severe muscle aches and weakness. I went off of them-and I'm really too chicken to take another run with them........after 18 months I'm still not back to 100%, but I do feel much, much better.

Anyway, I've added a lot of supplements to my somewhat lowfat diet. I have given up nearly everything wonderful (sausage pizza, steak, and the dogs with chili).

Supplements I know can have problems also. I seem to have developed a very sensitive tongue...well the tip mostly. It has very tiny white little bumps and the cheeks inside my mouth just seem overly sensitive. Not really painful, just feels "wrong".

The supplement I've been told may be causing the problem is cinnamon. I have been spinkling it on some rolls (low-fat) for breakfast and , I've started chewing cinnamon gum a few months ago as it contains cinnamon oil. Has anyone every had this problem, it would seem pretty extreme to me?

I also take 100mg of COQ10
Fish Oil
B Complex vitamin
81mg aspirin
Flaxseed oil
magnesium 500 mg

What about any of the above causing this problem?
Thanks

Is your cholesterol that bad... whre you have to give up the pleasures in life...?

What meds have your tried... like statins, fibrates, zetia, or niacin...?

T/C is only 220 but the LDL is at 159 (it was at about 70 with Lipitor). I have tried Zocor and Pravachol.....and Zetia. I passed on Welchol (sp?)

I suppose it possibly could be the cinnamon gum, as I recall some reports of mouth irritation with long term use of cinnamon oil in gum.

I don't believe there is any health benefits to chewing cinnamon gum either, so I see no point to it. Saliva deactivates some of the good things cinnamon does related to cholesterol (if in fact it does anything). If there is extra sugar or aspartame in the gum, it can't be good for you either.

Eating cinnamon on rolls, etc. I imagine would be fine, however.

By the way, if taking magnesium, avoid magnesium oxide. Hardly any of it is absorbed by the body (it's basically a waste, in other words). Go for a chelated mag product (orotate, glycinate. etc.).

VentureMan,

I like your attitude! There SHOULD be an equal balance between the two. Sometimes we try too hard. I think I will losen up a little. Eating out tonight...and it won't be just a salad. :D
