I was wondering if i could take abit of your time as I have not been very well for the last two years, On and off. With neurological symptoms, including: minute myclonic jerks in the arm, brisk symetric aching to hyper-reflexa. I have undergoed two MRI's. One with and one without dye, MRI brain and whole spinal cord. MRI showed three or four very small areas. Increase signal in the T2 flare images. Spine normal. Had a lumber puncture - normal results. So Multiple Scleorisis is most likely excluded as a diagnosis.Then I was tested for Lupus. Lupus is ruled out aswell now. I've been tested for Stiffman syndrome. Blood was normal. With your expert opinion, do you think the conclusion could be psychological - or do you think there is other possibilities? As I do not feel it could be psychological. As. I have never had any psychological or mental problems previously. Nor' in family history. And I have never suffered with depression, anxietys or ever had any sort of mental imbalance. And feel stable in my life. I do not expect a diagnosis or you to coem to a full conclusion just through an e-mail but I fel very lost in the fact that I do not know what I have to do next so any advice that you could give me would be very supportive, which I will be very grateful for.:confused:

Hi No1sy- welcome to the board! I am sure you will get lots of posts to help you figure out what is happening.
What you describe sounds like it could be a lot of things and not much like Lyme disease but since some people who come to this board do end up thinking Lyme disease (I know of 3 that in the last 2 months, not counting me, dx'd last month) I am going to post Lyme symptoms ( I am stealing from a knowledgable poster named Ticker) so you can see if they look familiar.

Oh, and don't give up- if you do not think it could be psych, it probably is not. I almost fell for that and I am so glad I didn't. So many of us are told that when the doc can;t figure out what is wrong. Just keep searching till you find a doc that has an open mind and will keep looking. They are hard to find. I never found one- had to use these wonderful boards to narrow down what I thought it could be and target my docs for that disease.
Unexplained fevers, sweats, chills, or flushing
Unexplained weight change--loss or gain
Fatigue, tiredness, poor stamina
Unexplained hair loss
Swollen glands
Sore throat
Testicular pain/pelvic pain
Unexplained menstrual irregularity
Unexplained milk production: breast pain

Always get a second opinion, maybe even a third. It really angers me because SO MANY doctors are quick to say its "Psychological" if the diagnoses isn't easy or obvious. Also, a negative lumbar puncture does not mean its not MS. MS symptoms and signs vary in people.

Hi, sorry you're having these symptoms. It's the hardest thing to not know what may be wrong. You know your body, and you know some things aren't right.
Did your neuro. mention it could be psychological? or is this your thinking?
Being in limbo and not knowing can be very stressful and can cause you to doubt yourself. I know, I've been there.
My advice would be to get a second opinion and go from there. Further testing is probably necessary. There are so many similarities in diseases, so many look alikes. It takes time to sort it all out.

hi all thank you for getting back to me
my first neuro has left and not once did he ever say to me its all in my head
but the neuro who took his place as soon as i walked in to his room he said
ive looked over your file and all tests are normal theres nothink else i can do sometimes we dont find whats wrong and sometimes is psychological
with thats i said to u think its all in my head and then he went on about this woman who comes in every day saying she haveing a seizer and he puts her on a eeg and its all normal
with that i said not being funny but do u think i like comeing in to see you i not haveing fun with this i am a strong person am not depressed and was not stressed and and not stressed he answer was psychological does not work like that my hubby said what u wake up one one day and then u have psychological problems neuro didnt answer that
he said i test your reflexs he was fast hitting his hand hard on every reflex thats i even said to him dont that hurt your hand then he stabed my foot that really hurt and hurt for some days after and tapping my shoulders and kept going over and over really fast after the reflexs i felt so introded it was horrable and he said nope all reflexs was fine i said so i dont have brisk reflex and hyper what the other neuro and the lupus doctor he said nope they was wrong i am never going to that neuro ever again :mad:

I'm sorry you had to deal with a Dr like that, I had my own horrible Neuro....he told me all my problems were because of me smoking!

I'm sorry you had to deal with a Dr like that, I had my own horrible Neuro....he told me all my problems were because of me smoking!

Some doctors are just horrible... They skipped their classes on bedside manners and they are so pretencious that they are the only people that can be correct in their opinion. I'd find another neurologist, perhaps if you have one in your are that specializes in MS that would be an advantage, because if you have 3 or 4 plaques showing on the brain MRI, that isn't "nothing" it's "something". Perhaps not MS... but then yet perhaps it is... I had a neurologist like this once and I switched and never looked back, I was dx 10 years ago now.

Thanks for clearing up the who said what issue. Unfortunately, many neuros. put the blame? of not finding the diagnosis right back in the patient's lap. Then you're left thinking exactly how you are. (Is it me, am I imagining all of this, am I a hypochondriac?)
As I said before, I went through this for four years and two neuros. Only when I researched and found a highly respected MS Specialist (that's the totality of his practice) did I get answers, diagnosis, and treatment.
He knows the latest treatments, the latest research and findings. My other two neuros didn't think cognitive damage could happen early on. That's been proven false.
Stay strong and find someone who knows MS inside and out. Someone that can look outside of the diagnostic box so many are put in. (If you don't fit the profile of everything in that box, you're left in limboland.)
Who knows if it's MS or not. I initially went to the specialist to finally rule it out. Since everything else known to man had been ruled out, why not MS?
Two days, and one test later, I was diagnosed R/R MS.
