Hey girls, anyone taking Yaz? It's been making me so nauseous at night that I really feel bad when I take it. I can't fall asleep because my stomach feels so uncomfortable. It's not that bad when I'm awake because I'm really active and lots of things distract me from it, but I'm sure it's there.

I haven't gotten a good nights sleep for 2/3 days. I think it's mostly constipation. But when I go to the bathroom, nothing happens. Does anyone have a remedy for this? Is it something I ate, or the Yaz?

Like when I DO do a bowel movement, it feels like I didn't empty them. I don't want to take a laxative as it's not very safe. Are there any other remedies I should try or do I just have to wait this out. I'm not really liking this no sleeping thing. Granted, it is my first week of college of my sophomore year. Yea, I guess I should be used to no sleeping.

It's always hard for my body to adjust when I ge to new places. And I bet without the nausea I wouldn't be sleeping much either. But the nausea is a problem and I really just want to get it over with ><

PS: I was going to try to take mylanta for the constipation. It's not REALLY a laxative. But is it safe to take with birth control pills? I was going to take mylanta after dinner and then before bed and see what happens.

I had the exact same problem with Yaz... didn't sleep for eight days because of the bloating/nausea, and food didn't seem to help either. I felt like I was going to explode! I ended up stopping it, not so much because of that but because it was causing some serious mood problems (don't get nervous, though - that's a problem I have with all BCPs, and if you don't, I'm sure you will be fine). Anyway, once I went off of it, my stomach went right back to normal, so it is definitely a side effect of the Yaz. That being said, Mylanta should be perfectly safe to take with it to help. I took Maalox and stuff like that, and that seemed to help somewhat. Once your system gets used to it, it should go away.

Ok...I suffer from depression and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I'm constipated all the time. Everyone once and a while I take dulcolax to relieve constipation. Granted it's a laxative it's the only thing that works...I'm like the Hoover Dam. I'm on Cymbalta for depression which makes the constipation worse. But it helps with my depression so I've learned to deal. I started Yaz last week because my gyno told me I have PMDD. I'm a completely different person before my period. She warned me it could affect my moods and make them worse, which as a depression sufferer, I don't need. I've only been on them for a week and I can say, they haven't bothered me yet. How long have you been on Yaz? I haven't felt naseous or anything. I'm hoping it stays that way b/c I need a happy medium.

I've been on YAZ for about 5 months now. It sucked in the beginning, then it was great. However I've been experiencing increased urination and increased thirst the whole time on the pill. And lately I've been feeling horrible and I think it has everything to do with YAZ. Yaz works as a potassium-sparing diuretic and I'm considering stopping it for this reason. It makes you flush more fluids and sodium from your body while storing extra potassium which can be very dangerous and lead to heart failure. If you go on Yaz, urge your doctor to test your potassium levels within the first month and then every 6 months. My doctor didn't think it was necessary but I've been feeling horrible lately and by looking at other forums I've seen that I'm probably getting all these bad side effects from YAZ. When I began it I was tired and nauseated for 2 weeks constantly. Now I feel like that again, plus I'm having stomach problems, and lightheadedness. I'm tired and weak constantly. I've become a very worried and anxiety ridden person over the summer, and I now suspect I'm severely depressed. I have no excitement about going back to college in a few days and I cry about it all the time. I also cry about stupid things all the time or just for no reason, and I constantly have to be worrying about some issue. Like right now I'm really scared and I won't get my blood test to test blood sugar and potassium until tomorrow. I'm quitting YAZ after this cycle to see if my depression symptoms improve, and I hope if my tired and weakness is related to the Yaz that I can quit the pill and make it all go away. I drink a lot of water because I feel dehydrated all the time, and this just flushes more sodium from my system and scares me even more that I could have high potassium. It's a strange birth conrol but it did control my PMDD for a little while... but now I'm just a basket case and I feel I need to stop taking it.

Yaz is only dangerous potassium-wise if you already have adrenal problems with your liver, kidney, or adrenal glands.

However, I do agree that it's wise to have a blood test anyway, whether starting Yaz or any other hormonal birth control, to check for potential problems.
