Does anyone with just Fibro (as in, not Fibro and Lupus, and not "oh, it's JUST Fibro) have really bad muscle spasms? Maybe spasm isn't even the word, I'm having my muscles jerk pretty severely. I was sitting at my desk at work about an hour ago, and my leg jerked up and slammed off of the bottom of my desk (which of course is the metal, and thus MEGA LOUD kind). My arms jerk, my head will pull to one side or the other. I know Fibro can cause spasms, but I don't know if it causes this.

I have an appointment next month with an LLMD to test for Lyme, and may see an MS specialist, since the neurologist I saw was very dismissive. Just wanted to know if this was something that could be explained by Fibro, or if it's definitely another problem. Like I need more of those. ;)

 Hi Ladycakes, yes I have fibro and spasms, but not with the severity that you have described. My limbs do jerk at times, my spasms are more like severe pain, knotting and tightening of muscles, then sometimes something will jerk. You know when you are drifting off to sleep and for some reason you jerk? Its like that, but I'm not going off to sleep. I'm thinking that maybe because your muscles are constricting so much, the nerves are squeezed to an extent that they twang, if that makes sense? That must be really awful for you and causing a lot of bruises too! I have a dx of fibro, but my doc is certain I have a degree of MS too although there is not enough clinical evidence for the neuro doc to make a firm dx for MS, so it could be that I suppose. I do know that MS can cause the muscles to react like that, but the people that I knew with MS were not even walking, let alone working. I wish I could be of more help to you and I really hope you get the answers soon. You take care, warm thoughts to you, hugs Snoozyowl;)

Hey ladycakes! I do have 'just fibro', and I have some spasms, but I think they are due to Restless Leg Syn. They are spontaneous and in my arms and legs, and are often in the afternoon as well as at night, but they are not as severe as yours, and never in my head or neck. Sometimes late at night my legs might jerk that much, but never during the day. I switched to Requip about a month ago and am finally getting some relief from RLS. Sounds like to me it might be another problem...certainly needs looking into! Hope that knee doesn't hurt too bad! Good luck with finding answers!

Yes I have had my muscles jerk, like my whole arm or leg. Or small involuntary muscles will jerk. It is weird. It is usually during flares, stress and sugar make it worse.

Flexeril works great for mine, and it helps me sleep so well. I would give it a try!

Spondylosis/ Cervical Plexus Injury: Causes my muscle spasms! I was in a bad accident in 2002' in South Carolina. Car vs. Pedistrian! OUCH! Three liver lacerations, all of my ribs fractured (one way or the other), a broken collar bone , and my right Tibia-Fibula (Shattered)...left me in a wheelchair for life. Now 5 1/2 yrs. later, Muscle spasms (severe). An MRI ordered by my Physician discovers: DDD , Spondylosis, Cervical Myleopathy, cervical stenosis, and Cervical Plexus injury (Moderate to severe), with signs also of (Severe nerve damage) . There are four well known hospitals where I live. But no Doctor cares too treat me for the spasms or chronic pain.I did get lucky , and went to see a "Nut-Doctor" for something for anxiety and I brought my medical records with me.......He said , "Okay , I'll help you"!
He perscribed (ELLivil) for (Anxiety), (Celexa) for (a nerve blocker) and ( Lithium 5 mg) for (Muscle spasms), (physical Therapy & Massage Therapy). This may have been a "Nut Doctor" but he sure rescued me ! "I will be learning to walk again sometime soon, with out the muscle spasms and pain
free"! And the anxiety just disappeared after I stated feeling much better! There can always be an answer if just you don't give in!

 Hiya All, John, a warm welcome to you, wow they were some injuries you received, but really glad you got a good doc to help you:) Sounds like you are in for some hard work, but it will be worth it, I wish you so much luck with that, would you keep us up to date on how things are going? Take care Snoozyowl;)
Hiya DonnMarie, you say sugar makes your spasms/jerks worse. Believe it or not mine get worse if I eat pork, not sausages or ham, just pork. Oh well we're all different, although I do keep away from soda drinks as well, take care keep well Snoozyowl;)

Hi ladycakes,
Sorry to hear about your spasms. Sounds terrible.
Gald to hear your going to see a specialist.
I have FM, and i have leg cramps, and at night when trying to fall asleep my feet, legs or upper body will jerk, like drifting off to sleep.
One other issue I have it some morning when iam in the state of waking up, I believe my head is shaking a bit. It's enough I notice it.
Some times it feel like paluse is beating in the back of my neck.
i've check my paluse rate and it's ok.
Have you had any of these problems.

I am so glad I have found this board! I have wierd calf muscle twitches( I call them bloobs) It feels like someone is shooting air through my veins and causing a "bubble". I have had this for a long time...thought it was meds, it wasn't. They are not constant but very annoying mostly when I am at rest.

Yeah I get them to and my body does the same thing as yours. Especially my neck, head, legs and arms. Sometimes my legs will involuntarily give out on me to. But I have been tested for everything under the sun and my nueroligist said that it is just the fibro and the way my body reacts to having this disease. Sorry you are going through this. I know the feeling very well.

Much love,
Sunnie
