Ok, I admit it. I'm a lil scared.
I've had pain in my liver for over a month now, and it's been slowly getting worse. This week I've been quite sick and as routine they did liver function tests. The results were:
ALT: 143
AST: 113
ALP: 157
GGT: 126
I'm going to see my regular doc tomorrow, but I'm pretty freaked out right now. I had Hepatitis tests done a couple months ago because I found out my boyfriend at the time had been an ex drug drug user and had had a previous homosexual relationship (for the record it's not why we broke up and he is now drug free and clear about his sexuality). I got myself tested for all STD's and all came back negative.
The doc did say tho that it might have been too early to tell if I had Hep C. Now I'm terrified. Just two months ago my liver tests were perfectly normal. Now liver pain and these results have me worried.
Really worried.
Tell me I'm overreacting.

I just got back from the hospital from receiving todays tests and fluids, all my LFT's have increased by 20%.
I'm terrified. My chosen career was theatre nurse or midwife, I highly doubt they will let me do those if I have hep c, though I'm not certain.
I get my hep tests back in a couple days.

MIss Poss--
It is extrememly hard to contract Hepc unless you share needles or have a contaminated blood transfusion. Even shaving with a razor that your ex h might have used is still a reallllllly outside chance. My hubby of 31 years had it for 40+ years. I do not have it, nor do any of our 5 kids, so that should set your mind somewhat at rest. You might still ahve Hep a or B, but almost assuredly not C, don't fuss about that.
Keep up woith yout testing and I'm sure you'll find that all is well.
Best,
Liz

Well my hep tests all came up negative.
But there is still something weird going on with my liver.
I just spent 8 days in hospital and they still can't figure it out. I've been poked at, prodded and stuck with more needles than I can remember in the last couple weeks.
I had a ct scan and they said I mild pancreatitis. I also ended up with pneumonia (tho how this would effect my liver I really don't know). My LFT's kept on going up and up, and although they are now slowly coming down (my GGT is at 290 after having hit a peak of 340) I'm still having trouble. THe scans I had done said my gallbladder isn't blocked in anyway, but according to my doc my blood tests are proving otherwise.
In my latest round of bloodtests it is showing my bilirubin, albumin, total protein and globulin are all increasing, despite my LFT's coming down.
This is all really screwy to me. The doc's have no idea, I have no idea, and I'm still sore where my liver is and have practically no appetite because whatever I eat seems to aggrivate my liver even more. I'm so exhausted..and frustrated.
I just wish I knew what was wrong. That's all I want, a starting point so I know what to do next.
I'm sorry, I've gone on a bit, I just needed to vent.

i understand your fears here believe me.have you tried doing any research on pancreatitis at all?i DO know that once my son developed pancreatitis from his liver failure, all his numbers just shot thru the roof.pancreatitis in and of itself can cause hepatic labs to become a bit screwed up.just a thought for you.just do a bit of research on the panc, and see what the lab numbers do and how they can increase while you have it.that may ease your mind some.what types of tests have they done on you so far?what are your amylaise and lipase numbers looking like at this point?those are the two main labs they use to determine pancreatic function.hopefully once you run your course of anti Bs things will get better with the labs.they ARE doing anti Bs for you right?Marcia
