View Full Version : Bulimia after 5 years

I have suffered from bulimia for 5 years, and now I think it has caught up to me. I have stoped however binging and purging for a month and a half now. I had a weekend in which I binged and purged 10 times in one weekend. At the end, on a Sunday night, I went out to dinner, shortly after dinner, I noticed a pain in my upper right abdominal region. The pain was not there the next morning. However, once I started to eat something, I felt this pain again. I thought I had a whole range of diseases for some reason, I tought I got something from bacteria from work, an STD (which would be odd since I practiced always safe sex and I didn't have sex for a year), or something like cancer even though I should of just faced up to the fact it was bulimia. For a few days I didn't have a fever, I didn't have the flu or cold, I was just facing this pain after meals in my upper right abdominal region and then occasionally a pain in my upper left abdominal region.

A month after my pain started, I went to the doctor, he did a whole series of blood tests and all was normal and healthy. My organs were evaluated and all was once again healthy.

However, I never told my doctor I was bulimic, at this time when I saw the doctor I stoped purging for a month and since I stoped bulimia, I have not been plagued by any pain. I do still get the pain after I eat something after meals. Does anyone think this might have to do with my gallbladder? I do however after times get a pain in my upper left abdomin. However, I do not know what to think. I am not sure what to think. My doctor says she might think it will be my gallbladder. And now I beat myself up since I have done this to myself.

I ate a "normal" sized meal recently and felt pain in my right upper stomach area, just below the rib cage. I thought I over ate, since this was a large meal for me. Since then I haven't felt this pain, but I try to eat smaller amounts more often instead of "large" meals. Please let us know when you find out what the cause of your pain is. I hope you feel better. :)

Pain from gallbladder problems can range from right to left, to even the back near the shoulder blades. It's generally accompanied by nausea (bad), vomiting (on its own), and the inability to do much of anything. It's important to get checked out, since a gallbladder can rupture, just like an appendix. There are ultrasounds they can do, or a CT scan, along with specific labwork. You need to tell your MD that you're bulimic, so he knows what to look for. Gallbladder disease is not rare in EDs.

it could be acid reflux disease.

you might want to look into that. i developed it after 3 years of bulimia.

I am doing a lot better, I haven't binged and purged for close to two months now :D. I have an upper GI on Thursday to check for ulcers and all that. I really wished I wasn't a chicken and that I went to the doctor earlier. It would of saved me a lot of worry and I would of gotten on with my life a lot quicker.

My question is with bulimia, when I haven't purged, is it normal to feel as if I am still full the next morning? Even if I eat something normal.

Also I am constently belching and as embarrased as I am to say it, I have a lot of flatuance.

I have no history of fever and no naseau or vomiting, so I don't think it is from an illness. So are some of my symptoms from the bulimia?

Yes, that's normal with EDs, since the GI system doesn't have consistent intake or retention of food....but it's always best to have the doc check it out, since so many disorders can mimic the ED symptoms of getting used to food again....

I had a hida scan, and the doctor says my gallbladder is not contracting, can this be due to the bulimia. I am having it removed in December.
