I just found out I have carpel tunnel. Does this necessarily have anything to do with fibromyalgia?

Thanks :)

I have real problems with my right arm, pins and needles, numbness etc.
The doctor did suspect carpal tunnel at first but as it never progressed and sort of came and went he said it was probably my fibro.
He did suggest I may be prone to Carpal because of the fibro but didn't really explain that reasoning to me.

hi turtle,
not really but it is interesting for me that you brought this up. i have cts. had the surgery, don't recommend it. p.t. is better. and braces.
i had cts first and during my long wait for surgery i also developed fibro. any connection? who knows? i do know fibro will intensify the pain. it still does for me. fibro loves those places of injury, old or new. it feeds on it.
best therapy at home. you won't belive this, dishes. hot water and using your hands. go figure? yet it does help. i hate dishes. giggle.
peace,

hi bouncy,
interesting what you doc said. interesting. does it open you up to other stuff, this fibro? i have my doubts on that. would love to hear his reasoning. perhaps there is something new i don't know about.
what i do know is you can have fibro all by itself and you can have a host of other medical stuff along with fibro. there are no rules.
sadly there is also no real knowledge for us to grab hold of. only speculations. sometimes i feel sorry for all our doctors. they must feel frustrated. as do we all at times.
peace,

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for responding. I appreciate everyone's responses. I have an appt in Sept for a follow-up on my arm. If it is not better by then, they said I will need an EMG and if that doesn't work, they will consider surgery. I want to avoid surgery at all cost. This dang fibro really ticks me off :( My arm has not been getting better and is now having numbness with pins and needles, even after wearing this splint they gave me. I am also taking Naproxen 500 mg twice a day.

Thanks again :)

hi turtle,
i forgot to mention the surgery did not correct the cts. i still have it. for myself only, the surgery was not the best choice. i was not educated enough then to realize i could seek other less invasive solutions first.
in the end it is you who must decide what you will allow to be done to your body, no one else. it does not matter if "they will consider surgery" you must decide, not them. it is your body, your choice.
i have had several surgeries since the gift of fibro came to live with me. i and my doctors agree fibro must be considered when healing is discussed. it does affect the healing as we are hypersensitive to pain. it also likes to show up in healing sites to do it's thing. i have it in my eyes now. surgery. in my urethra and vagina. surgery. be sure if you do have the surgery you are not in a flare up at the time. i know that one well. not fun.
peaceful heaing,

Hi everyone..I also have ct. and fibro..its funny but I not only have heard them mentioned together, but I also have painful plantar fasciitis and seem to hear that many have that as well..my ct.is much better after having worn the braces for months during the night, but has somewhat been flaring up rectnely, my fibro has been really acting up and the elavil stopped working..and the pf. is at its worst right now..just wondering if this is all a part of the fibro!!
Gosh I just wish I felt like my old self again! I am sick and tired of feeling sick and tired!!
gentle hugs to you all
cj.

My grandma had the op for cts and she did improve, but I know many that haven't.
I also know of someone who got better with a mixture of Chiropractic treatment and Acupuncture.
I know my chiropracter eases my numbness and pain when I go and I always feel better after I've seen the Acupuncturist.

Hello Iloveturtles, Please keep us posted on your Sept. appointment.
I myself have not been diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel but i awake with both hands asleep. It feels like circulation being cutoff at the wrists. Tingle and numbness is there. Even to drive i have to shake my hands for they are falling asleep, very annoying. I personally will try the wrist bands first, surgery would be a last option for me. Keep us posted, thanks.

I too had the hands falling alseep and had to wear braces for about a year to bed. The right had got so bad that I had a burning pain that run up into my elbow. The burning pain in my wrist was sometimes so painful I would actually cry and I don't cry easy after dealing with Fibro this past seven years. Carpal Tunnel is common with Fibro. I had surgery on my right hand a year ago last July. It worked very well...also had a nerve in my wrist worked on and the burning pain stopped. However I still have a lot of constant inflammation in my right elbow that I have learned to live with...very painful at times and cannot lift things sometimes without great pain but have found nothing to take that did not have side effects that were worse. Hang in there...sometimes Fibro patients will have more secondary illnesses than you can shake a stick at...especially the longer you have it. Sorry if that sounds discouraging but you will find you will have to suck it up in more ways than one. Try to think positive...I know that sounds stupid and redundant but believe me...if you don't it will only make matters worse.
