I'm very skiddish of cholesterol meds. A year ago my triglycerides were in the 400 range.
Well I'm about ready to go in for another test in a little over a week.
The doctor said if they are still that high he wanted to do some more tests and most likely put me on Tricor to help lower.
Then he goes on to tell me some side effects are nausea and loss of feeling in the legs.
I'm not about to deal with this just to lower something that may help lower my risk of heart disease.
In the past year I"ve tried as much as possible to change my diet. I've limited my soda intake and hopefully will eliminate it soon.
I've also started asking for things without cheese and being more conscious about what I eat.
Just recently I"ve tried the Fish Oil and have been taking about 1 1000mg pill per day.
Now he wants me to take 3 per day:( O Joy!!!
I"ve been exercising off and on about 2 x per week for about 30 minutes.
I'm hoping my results all come back better but if they don't what are you thoughts about tricor?

Tell you Doctor you want to try Niaspan first. It's niacin and only has two side effects that bothers some a lot, some only a little, and some not at all.
I do not get bothered at all.
Potential side effects are flushing (your skin feels warm... women have noted it to feel like hot-flashes) and itching.
I believe niacin is best as lowering TG's, followed by Fibrates. Niacin also raises your good cholesterol.
Also, I understand you can not take both fibraqtes and statins together... the combonation could be deadly... literally.
If your Doctor is stuck on the fibrates... I would take Lopid before Tricor as there are not nearly as many side effects with Lopid. I don't think I would ever consider Tricor... way to many side effects. WOuld rather have high TG's than take Tricor.
Good luck. :)

One last note...
If you drink alcohol... this can send your TG's through the roof. Also, sweets and carbs can as well.
I enjoy a cocktail... so I try to balance this, but really should stop drinking all together. Yeah... like that is going to happen... :D
