You may want to have the night guard looked at since it may be the cause of your teeth being loose. Ill fitting or improperly designed guards can cause teeth to shift and for that to happen they become mobile. Obviously the perio problems, no matter how mild should be addressed as that can progress to the point you will lose bone and then teeth so you should see a periodontist for treatment - the earlier it is treated and put in check the better off you will be and the longer you will keep your teeth. You are very young to start with perio problems so I am suspecting that b/c your guard is forcing the teeth to shift or become mobile, pockets are developing around them allowing plaque to build up. If you are not flossing or using an antibacterial rinse as part of your daily oral hygeine routine you should start doing so - and if you are doing this, try using a proxy brush - its a small thin brush or basically a firm wire with thistles surrounding the tip of it designed to fit between teeth and go a bit below the gum line to clean around the base of the teeth. This may help keep the gums free of bacteria and debris which should also help them become more stable - but again professional preventive perio treatment would be the best option.

My question would be are you truly having symptoms of perio disease? Swollen red gums, bleeding upon flossing, ?? I didn't get diagnosed properly until I was 48 with what you have: grinding and clenching i.e. bruxism, and everyone kept saying well why are your gums and bone receding but you have no bleeding etc., but still getting me to cough up for expensive tooth planing etc, which did nothing to treat the true cause, the bite that didn't "fit" which led to the grinding and clenching which led to the bone loss and gum recession DUH...I mean now I find out at 48. I have impeccably clean gums and mouth, but I've got gum recession and bone loss....not perio disease....make sure you get the facts straight with another "specialist" before they rope you into expensive treatment plans...trust me.

I have the same issues, but my dentist says that if you do not have any inflammation you will not have any bone loss. i.e. Even if you clench and grind, you will not lose any bone as long as you do not have periodontal disease.
fofomebunny - did you have any inflammation at all? Have the dentists truly determined that the bone loss is from your bite and bruxism? I'm hearing different opinion from dentists. Some say bruxism will cause bone loss and others say it will not.

Hi there. No, I never had any inflammation, bleeding, nothing. When you clench and grind you are basically wobbling the teeth around on their roots, like pilings. After a while, if you do nothing to shore them up so to speak, everything starts getting fluid. Just like when people are wearing braces and the teeth start to move into new positions, the bone is also plastic like and fluid if you exert force. Try rocking your front teeth back and forth every day, keep at it and I can guarantee you that your teeth will become loose. When I was younger I was so confused because I was being told I had periodontal disease with no symptoms, but when I went to a TRUE periodontist he said I had "the cleanest gums "he had ever seen, and what was I, some kind of a tooth nut? This said , I told him what dentists had told me, that I had periodontal disease because of my receding gums and bone loss. It was a total crock, they had no idea and conveniently got me to spend thousands of $$$.

fofomebunny - Do you also have a very bad bite? I have a open bite which I'm trying to fix with orthodontia (invisalign). Unfortunately, I think I'm still clenching away even with the braces on. This really concerns me, because I'm wondering if I'm doing double the damage with the clenching and moving the teeth at the same time. My orthodontist does not appeared concerned although I have told him several times that I am clenching my teeth at night.
Like you, I have no bleeding gums, deep pockets, or even a cavity. I was also a wearing a nightguard at night, but I'm wondering if it was just made incorrectly. My jaw would be really sore in the morning from wearing it.

well i did at one point have red gums, bleeding ect, but now no, since i have been taking care of my teeth much much better, they are pink, no bleeding when i brush or floss.
When i was younger i did have bad dental hygene, but now its better, i do have a little plauqe over my gums, but they have been slowly removed. i started wearing a night guard i bought from the store 3 months ago, but have had the loose teeth for a bit longer than that.
