Within the past couple weeks I've noticed the vision in my right eye is very blurry. Left eye is clear. I've also noticed some pain behind my right eye. I also have headaches pretty often on the right side of my head behind my eye. I do not wear glasses. Any info will be much appreciated.

Could be a lot of things. There's nothing a message board will be able to do for you. Go to your eye doctor and find out what it is.

sounds like u simply need glasses!! a test u could try as im not sure if its near or far for u would be to hold something close and cover ur eyes one at a time then do it with something far away say about 15 ft and see if ur vision is better or worse in either eye that way u could at least get an idea if ur vision is off in one eye more than the other.i am nearsighted in one and eye and farsighted in the other this happened only a few yrs ago and sure enough i needed glasses but because i only really noticed it distance wise with the one eye it was very apparent one eyes vision was not right.just go get an eye exam its nothing!

I tried that, and I almost had to get right up on the sign before it was clear with my right eye. Left eye perfect. I was most concerned with the pain in and behind my eye. I didn't know if needing glasses could actually cause the eye ball to hurt. And along with the headaches, I automatically assumed the worst....BRAIN TUMOR. My entire family wears glasses. I guess it's my turn. I have an appointment on the 5th. Thanks for the info. Take care

I'd say it's uncommon for one eye to become that myopic and the other one to stay perfect. You could have something like uveitis in that eye. Let us know how your appointment goes.

Hi,
Your symptoms also sound like optic neuritis, which can cause pain in and behind the eye, blurred vision, reduction in color vision, etc.
Please get checked out as soon as possible.

Hi!
I agree with the optic neuritis. I also had this same thing happen in Feb 07. It started with a dull pain behind my left eye and some blurriness. It was like that for about 3 days. It then became worse. I finally went in to the ER, they had me try to read the eye chart. With my left eye I could barely make out the big E on the top line. Its like I could only see the very top of it. They in turn sent me to an eye specialist immediately.(thank god he was right next door) He did a lot of tests. Visual field, color, pictures inside, etc. He diagnosed it as optic neuritis. I had a very definite blind spot. He sent me for lab work, an MRI, and also IV solumedrol for 4 days. It has been 6 months since I first noticed the problem. My vision is still blurry in my left eye. At its worst I had 20/80 vision with my glasses on, I am now at about 20/40. Upon reading the MRI results he said there were no active lesions, so he temporarily ruled out MS. But it is definitely a symptom. So, if it were me I would definitely go to an eye specialist.(if available) ON is often misdiagnosed.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply. I haven't noticed as much pain behind the eye for a couple days now. Still have headaches. I went to my family doc and he is setting me up for an MRI and with an eye doctor. My best friend was having the same symptoms that I am having a few years ago, and she went and had an MRI done and the diagnosis was MS. This has been weighing heavy on my mind. I'm ready to find out what this is. Thanks again.

My MRI came back normal. I can't get in to see eye specialist until the 24th. Is it possible to have MS and not show lesions?

Yes, actually it is possible to have MS without having lesions show on an MRI. You might want to go for further testing or see a neurologist or an MS specialist for a full workup.

Optic neuritis doesn't necessarily indicate MS. And you don't have a diagnosis of ON yet either.

How else could they diagnose MS? Does it show up in the spine or spinal fluid? When I was a teen, I had Gillian Barre Syndrome, which is very similar to MS. There really wasn't a specific test to check for it. They pretty much just ruled everything else out and came to this conclusion. The thought of having another spinal tap, even this many years later, scares me to death. Hope the eye DR can give me some answers and a pair of glasses cures this. I just wish I didn't have to wait so long to see him. Last week I had blood work done and everything came back great except my B-12 was low. Would my blood work be abnormal somewhere if MS was present? Thanks for your help.;)

Hi, yes, a spinal tap can help diagnose MS, but it is not an absolute either. Usually they go by a combination of MRIs, spinal taps, evoked potential tests, and ruling everything else out. And unfortunately no, there is no blood test for MS and nothing else would show up abnormal on a blood test if you did have it.
If your B12 is low, it could account for symtpoms of MS because the nerves need B12 to function properly.
Best not to worry about MS though yet, until you have reason to. As a lady on another board always says, don't waste a good panic. :)

Hi jenn812,
My MRI also came back okay when I had mine done. My eye Dr said that it doesnt mean that you dont have MS. He said to keep track of any unusual symptoms such as numbness, tingling, balance problems, etc. Which at the time I did have numbness and tingling in my right hand but that was due to carpal tunnel. I actually just had the CTS release in July, so that has seemed to clear up. But keep a journal if you can it helps. Its too bad you have to wait so long for the eye specialist. Mine is so good about getting same day appts. With my ON I get a little worried sometimes because it is affected by heat. If it is a really warm day my eye gets really blurry, so its hard to tell if its flaring up or just because it is warm. I would ask the Dr about the B-12, I remember reading something about eye problems with B-12 deficiency. If I can find the website I will post it for you. I did so much searching when I was first diagnosed its hard to remember it all. I did find a couple sites that did mention B-12 deficiency and optic neuritis or optic neuropathy.
This definitely should be looked into.
Sorry I forgot to add this when I edited my last post...
When you go see your eye specialist I would definitely mention it about having Gullian Barr. They do seem very similar and there could be a correlation between the two. Get as much info as you can about the tests that you had done back then and results. This will help a lot in developing a timeline of symptoms. Good luck!:)

Jenn, have you started taking B-12 yet? If not, you can always pick up a bottle at the drug store and get started. B-12 deficiency can affect the eyes.
Hope that's all it turns out to be.

Hey everyone. Went and saw eye DR and it turns out I am near sighted in my right eye and show some early signs of glaucoma. Nothing to be worried about now. Going to get some glasses and hopefully that will help some with the headaches too. Thanks to all who replied. Take care.

Glad that's all it turned out to be. B-12 might still help.

Yes me too. I have started taking a B-12 supplement everyday, and it has helped a lot with the tingling in my hands and feet. Not so much with the vision. I still have a little tingling here and there, so I made an appointment with a neurologist in November. My family DR never really ruled out MS completely, although my MRI was completely clear of any lesions.
