Hi Everyone,

i was on orthocyclen and i had very bad breast tenderness for weeeekssss. so i went back to planned parenthood and they gave me the mini pills, pops however you call it. (orthomicronor) My concerns and questions: (sorry for my stupidity regarding the questions)

1. is it just as safe as any other IF i take it exactly the same time everyday?? i dont have a problem with that, i just want to make sure that it is as safe as the others!!!

2. since there's no estorgen in this one, what's the pros and cons? can i still get breat tenderness, or what is the worst that can happen?? or is as low on hormone as the orthocyclen??? dont want to get a beard or mustache:-))

THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH, WHOEVER REPLIES. !!!

Hey Desperate!

I was actually looking into these pills and did a lot of research. I haven't made the switch yet, but I hope I can help!

These pills actually work a little differently than the others, because they don't have estrogen. Instead of stopping ovulation (well, they may or may not still stop it), it makes the layer of mucous thicker on the cervix. I'm also on Ortho Tricyclen, and with this pill, I might take it one day at 6pm, and the next day maybe at 10pm. With pills like ortho, etc., having this fluctuation in time isn't "that" risky, as long as its in the same time frame (in the evening, in the afternoon, or in the morning - whatever one you chose to use). With the Mini-pill, if you're late by three hours or more, this heightens the chance that you may become pregnant. With "perfect" use (taking it every day at 6pm, for instance), its just as effective as the other pills.

Because it doesn't have estrogen, side effects that one might get on pills like ortho (migraines, nausea, breast tenderness), are not as common and usually only "sometimes happen" or happen very rarely. The one change that is common is a change in your periods. If this is your first pack of mini's, your next period may come as early as one week from when you should get it.

Hope this helps!!

If you do experience severe breast tenderness or any other symptoms that are really bothersome, I'd go to the Dr. to see about some other options :)

Thank you for replying i really appriciate it. now you said instead of stopping ovulation it actually creates a mucus around the cervix. now can that cause any problem with that thick mucus around it?? safe enough?
i know that there's the ortho...and the ortho....something LO. i used to take the ortho without the LO , do you think with the LO i could have avoided the painful breast tenderness?? because i've never tried it, so i dont know.
Is there less hormone in mini pills or more?
thank you, thank you , thank you.
