I just took my first 10mg pill this morning about an hour and a half ago. What do people on the web mean when they say you should feel it "kick in"? All I feel is the need to have a cup of coffee. My doc said stay of caffine for a while. Does a persons size have anything to do with the dosage? I'm a large guy at 235 lbs. I won't get too impatient here, I guess maybe I was expecting too much. Any thoughts?

Well it's been 10 hours since my pill and haven't felt anything except a mild headache. My doc told me to take 10 mgs in the morning for 5 days and then take one in the AM and again at 2pm. Maybe I was just expecting too much today. I sure would like to concentrate on one thing instead of 6.:dizzy:

I weigh 125lbs and take 10mg in the am and another 10mg around noon time. People can react differently to meds so maybe your dr. is being cautious and that is why he has you starting at 10mg.

Do you take any other meds or have any other medical issues? Adderall is an amphetamine so maybe they are wanting to make sure it doesn't increase your heart rate or something like that?

Not to mention........Adderall may not be the "answer" for you and you might have to try a few other meds before you find the "right" one. Give it a few days and if you don't see any improvement -- call your doctor.

take care

I've been taking adderall for a few months now and it took me a while to get benefits. I've had 3 dose increases so far.
My doctor told me a person's height/weight doesn't really matter, something about how it's metabolized by the brain, not the digestive system or whatever, although some foods that affect the ph level of your stomach can cause it to be used differnetly. There's lots of info on the net about this.

I've heard of a 250 male benefitting from 20 mg a day. I'm a 100 pound female and so far I'm up to 45 mg a day (started off with 5mg and increased every two weeks) and only seeing a bit of increased focus that only lasts for about 3 hrs. Doc has me taking it three x a day instead of just 2 now. (This is IR, not XR) No increased energy, which I was hoping for.

it's funny, but until i read this post, i never considered weight an issue with the dosage. i've been taking around 40mgs a day (20mgs 2x's) for roughly 10 years, and in those 10 years my weights fluxuated from 184 to 132, back way up to 215 (after my first baby), down to 155, back up to 185, and now back down to 135. the whole time, i've stayed at around 40mgs..... just out of curiosity, why would weight have anything to do with it? isn't ADD a brain issue? it's probably a really stupid question, but it's a sincere one. i've never been really good with the sciences and things.....

anyway, as far as it "kicking in," i don't really ever get that either, but i can definitely tell when i have forgotten to take it! hope it works out for ya!

you know i dont have a clue why weight would have anything to do with it.. i just figured cause maybe its going through your blood stream or something. so really i dont know. i guess i thought because usually when your a bigger person you have to take more of something. but really i couldnt tell you what i was thinking when i replied to that. i just typed what i first came to mind.

Actually, weight isn't really a factor in determining the dosage of Adderall or the methylphenidates. It would be nice if it were because then it might be easier to predict which dose will work for which person. As it is, sometimes a small dose will work for a large person and vice versa. Everyone's response to these meds is different.

Weight is a factor in prescribing some meds - usually those that have to reach a certain level in the blood to be effective. The reason, I believe, is that these drugs are stored in the fat cells. Adderall & the methylphenidates aren't stored in the body - they are completely cleared in a few hours.
