I have a question for anyone out there. If a port has failed and a central line has failed to treat breast cancer, what are some of the other options?

Hi there GMS, Im not really sure if I understand your question..but, I also had a port that needed to be removed..chemo was over 2months prior to the collapse of the port..I know what a central line is..although luckily the hospital I was in at the time was able to locate a vein just prior to the surgery.. I wasnt aware that central lines couldnt work..I assumed they put them in without complications..So the only answer I have, is that I do know many women who have used the veins in their arms..and have not had any problems.
I hope things work out for you!!
hugs,
cj.

My mother is the one who has the breast cancer and has had many problems. Actually the port and the central line went in fine. What happened is that over time she has developed blood clots behind each site. She is currently on cumadin for that, but is pretty much in a, "I just don't want to deal with this anymore" frame of mind. So I wanted to try and get some in sight of other alternatives that others have gone through or are currently going through. That's what I was wondering, if there was a way for them to just put in a needle in the arm or hand and administer chemo that way? Any advice or guideance would be greatly appreciated.

cjammom, thank you for your encouraging words. Best of wishes to you.
