Hi all,
I haven't been on this site in ages and I thought of all of my old friends here and wanted to repost an older board to hopefully help some of you who are deathly afraid of the dentist (below).
I've been seeing my dentist regularly for cleanings every 6 months and I am very proud of myself considering it had been 8+ years without going due to extreme fear. Anyway, I hope everyone is well and I am happy to talk to anyone at all about dental phobia.
Much love,
Meg

Wow this is just what I'm looking for and it's very nice of you!

I havent been to the dentist in about eight years and I have a really badly impacted tooth. I took a photo of it. The cavity is huge and its been exposed for years. My fear is getting endocarditis. They changed the antibiotic requirements and now say it's unnecessary to take antibiotics in some patients with heart murmurs. I'm just scared. I've never had a tooth extraction, well besides the ones I pulled myself when I was little. People say you only feel pressure and very little pain. Is that true? Im terrified man!

I've had endocarditis twice - once from a tooth extraction, and once from a cut in my foot.

I nearly popped my clogs second time ( foot ) so my advice is to INSIST on anti-biotics.

You don't want to contract endocarditis, believe me !

tooth extraction ,isnt painful at all well shouldnt be !!

ive even had a difficult one to come out but ,it still didnt hurt had to have stitches though

you be fine ,once youve been numbed up ,and you can feeel it numb ,all you feel is a little pull then thats it

anti biotics not always neccessary depends if you got an infection ,there ?

you just got to keep area clean

if at any time while he is pulling you feel it just stop him and tell him and he numb you more

And I thought that I had things to worry about at the dentist. I'm getting my wisdom teeth out soon and I'm really scared. It's bugging me.

I'm just trying to remember that all that I will feel is the shot, and then a little aching afterwards.

I am deathly afraid of the dentist. I had a bike accident at 8 years old and smashed out 3 of my teeth, they had to sew them back in, and it was a big ordeal. 2 of them went abcess and had to have a root canal at 10 years old. They didn't put me to sleep, just a little novicane, and it SCARED ME FOR LIFE. Then, at 12, I had went back and they told me that I had to have all those teeth removed ASAP, right then and there because they could fall out. I cried. I'm 21 now, and my teeth are still in my mouth. They hurt from time to time, but usually if I brush the pain leaves. I get a periodic cleaning every, I dunno, maybe 3 years or so. I got one wisdom tooth removed a few years ago, and was a nervous wreck, they hooked me up to those blood pressure machines and my BP went through the roof and the machines went crazy with the beeping, they had to unhook me because I was so freaked out. I told them to give me everything they could to put me to sleep because I was too much of a sissy to get just ONE out. (After I woke up I was completely fine!!! I still need to have my other 3 removed though - I'm not too scared about the wisdom teeth thing now!) I'd rather go to the doctor than the dentist!!!
