Hello,
I was wondering if anyone who has supplemented with Pantethine and had a slight decrease in LDL and slight raise in HDL? To my understanding it works great for helping reduce triglycerides but I was thinking of adding it to my current regimen and try it for six months before my next test. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ventureman,
I had a feeling that it does not work well. It is rather expensive as well and most places do not carry it. Quick up date I decided to drop 1000mg flush niacin was real ruff. My Doctor put me back on the Red Yeast Rice which I have taken daily for the past three years. It has worked extremely well for me and have had no side effects or liver problems with it. I am going to start taking my second dose at bed time. I was told it would be better as our body's produces more cholesterol at night and while we are sleeping. I will get checked again in six months and may be this may help slightly. Also I have increased my lecithin from 1,2000mg 4times a day to 6 times a day, fish oil 1,000mg 4xday to 6x a day. I hope these to can also slightly improve my numbers. Also I just added grape seed extract 200mg 2x day. It is an excellent antioxidant and I heard it can help your numbers slightly. Is there anything else you would recommend to help lower LDL? Mine is in a good range but my Doctor would like it slightly lower. Thanks again for letting me know about the Pantethine.

If your cholesterol is in a good range... then good enough. Make sure you keep your Doctor honest. Don't be going for lower numbers for no good reason.
I try for the middle roan in keeping my cholesterol down. I know I will not keep taking supplements... as you are today... for the rest of my life. I've done the whole gammit of supplements. It gets old real quick. Take this from someone who has been trying to keep his cholesterol in range for 16 years.
I take one thing now... and one thing only... Niaspan. I love it... love it... love it. Very easy regimine. Reduced my number about 50% across the board. Three pills at bedtime.
Again... best of luck. :)

remember monunsaturated oils for your HDL. Canola, olive oil, etc can really help to raise it.

Hi mmvic,
Interesting you mentioned this I was speaking to a co-worker of mine today and he mentioned that as well. He advised that I take 1 to 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil straight daily. Have you tried this? Also many points can this raise your HDL typically?

Arizona77, I've always done this since I basically eat a Mediteranean diet anyways. It's easy to add one or two teaspoons to your normal diet. There are also some butter replacements that use canola or olive oil. If you do some checking, you can find verification for this. Even Dean Ornish now acknowedges this.My HDL is about 65 but it maybe due to genetics also:D Regardless I love olive oil.
