My dad is having the rectum removed in ten days and he was wondering how soon he can drive a car and return to work and any other info that you have that would help him figure out how soon he can go back. He is not financially able to quit and his work is contract so he needs to get back as soon as possible. Thank you...

It is difficult to say how long it takes to recover from rectal surgery....everyone is different. It is unfortunate that he has to think about getting back to work as it is important to focus on his health right now. Hopefully someone else will post to say how long they took off from work. I hope the surgery goes well and that your dad recovers quickly! Is he going to be having any other treatment, such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy?

Had rectal cancer and was out of work for 4 weeks after surgery.Your father must take care of himself first and not be worried about work. Everyone heals at a different pace, please encourage him not to rush. Severe complications could occur from rushing. good luck
