View Full Version : Mouth aching after wisdom teeth removal

:( I am in so much pain. I'm a 22 year old female, and I had 4 horizontally impacted wisdom teeth removed over 2 weeks ago. It was a hard recovery period, but I'm still in pain and am not sure why. I have Vicoden but am not taking it because it makes me feel [removed] so horrible.

Anyways, one side of my face (well both, they alternate) just aches...my jaw, ear, and my head. I have always suffered from chronic headaches, but am now getting more migraines, something fairly unusual for me.

My dentist is no help...pretty much blowing me off because they know I'm a baby when it comes to pain (that is true--I really am).

So I'm getting migraines and aching...is this normal?? If it is I'll just put up with it by using warm and cold compreses, and lots of Ibuprofen which does help. I just want to make sure it's normal, you know? I don't know what to look for in my mouth that might indicate an infection. I'm rinsing with the syringe like I should be (possibly not the right way...I don't know).

Thank you SO MUCH for any and all help you may have! I'm in pain!!

[Please do not use cuss/slang words. Thanks - Well-come Moderator.]

The pain that you are having is normal. You must remember, which many patients take lightly, that a tooth removal is a surgical procedure just is if you had a face lift or a kidney removed. You will feel pain, you have had the skin cut and bone removed and drilled. You have to give it time. Have you been given any antibiotics, sometimes tooth removal can cause bone infections called dry sockets.

Thanks for your reply :-) No, they have not given me antibiotics, although they did use cloves to treat it for awhile. They are actually having me come in today, so I guess we'll see.
