I recently started taking my BC pills 3 weeks ago, so im coming up on the placebo week of pills this sunday. I usually get my period on the last week as everyone else should. however this whole past week i have been i guess "spotting." It's not a full/regular period...it's like if i wipe then the toilet paper is a little pinkish color. is this normal? Also, I have always been on the pill for the past almost 9 years however i was recently off the pill since march and just started again. so, would that have anything to do with spotting now? thanks

Anytime you're on the pill, you can have spotting. It's the most common thing for a woman on the pill. If you read the package insert that came with the meds, it should mention something about spotting in there. I remember reading it in mine.

thanks, but when i was on the pill for like 9 years i never spotted until the week i was to get my period which is the last week of the pills. so, i was wondering if i was spotting this whole 2nd to the last week of the pills b/c i got off the pill for like 5-6 months so it messed my cycle up or something....

It doesn't matter how long you've been on or whether you had it or not before. Any time you're on the pill, you can have spotting. It just happens. Sometimes it's just an off month. Sometimes it's because the hormone level is too low and that is what sets it off. Sometimes it's because of stress. There is really not any clear answer about what causes it at any given time, it just is. Really, if you read that package insert that came with your pills, it will have the information in there about spotting.

But also, you're right, being off the pill for a while will definitely give you some weird cycle issues for a while, and then you went back on the pill, so your body is probably totally confused right now. All you can really do right now is just ride it out and let it work itself out. There's not much else you can do.
