Has anyone totally eliminated coffee (even just one cup in the morning) from their diet and noticed any difference in their muscle tension? Dawn2

I eliminated caffeine from my diet altogether a couple of weeks ago.. I was drinking a couple cups of coffee in the AM and decaf drinks throughout the day, so it wasn't as hard as it could've been.. I have noticed that I feel a little bit better (in the 10% margin) in regards to some of my dizziness and stiffness, but at a price.. It's even harder getting to sleep at night & waking up in the morning now (I've gone from waking up at 6am to waking up at 8:30am and rarely fall asleep before midnight anymore) and it seems that I've been getting depressed a lot more (environmental factors may be somewhat to blame)..

Thanks for your input. I stopped at one time altogether and I didn't notice any difference in my muscles. I did notice, I couldn't get started in the morning. I have major problems with chemical sensitivities too. I leave a window cracked in whatever room I'm in and noticed it has helped. Have you tried that? I also use no scented soaps, handcream, etc. It has helped me some.

I've gone from being a coffeeholic to being a decaffeinated drinker. At my MD's advice, I gave up all caffeine except for an occasional tea or soda (less than one per week). It has helped with all of my symptoms. I don't know if the coffee per se was causing the worsening of my symptoms, or if the caffeine kept me from getting good sleep, which worsened the symptoms. Doing away with caffeine didn't take away the FMS, but it did make it more manageable.

Nowadays, if I even drink even one regular cup of coffee anytime during the day, I sleep fitfully that night (if at all!)

Give up coffee, the elixir of energy...If I had my way, I would take it intravenously. Or soak in a hot tub of cappacino(sp?)at the end of a long hot day. There's no doubt in my mind that God Himself made coffee and there better be coffee in Heaven or...well, I dunno :) Al

Dawn: I can seriously relate to the chemical sensitivity issue.. The smell of fabric softener or anything very heavily perfumed or caustic can make me feel terrible.. It's strange too because there are times when I can be around a smell for hours & not notice it then all of a sudden, it hits me and I can smell nothing else but it until it makes me ill.. Lucky me, I'm also terribly photosensitive to things like fluorescent or dim lighting - sometimes even the light from my computer monitor..

Allen, I really really miss my coffee! Do you drink it before a certain time of day so it won't interfere with your sleep, or are you just immune to caffeine effects? Sometimes I go to McDonald's a slip and get a cup of their regular coffee and it tastes sooooo gooooood!!!....but I pay for it that night!

I stopped drinking caffeinated drinks months ago. (I now only have the occasional one). I don't think it helped anything at all and it is harder to awaken in the morning without my java.

ROFLMAO! Allen, I love this! I never have been a coffee drinker (funny, too, cuz my (extended)family owns two coffee plantations!) so I can't relate. But, I HAD to share this: Ever hear of the coffee enema, Al? While in Nutrition school, one of my instructors HIGHLY recommended this as the BEST way to utilize coffee  http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif

Just my two dimes worth...caffeine is for me a No-No with two capital N's...I always was a caffeinated soda drinker...then I took up a very demanding teaching assistant job and got in the habit of downing two 20oz. Mountain Dews AND a 24oz. cappacino to get me through the day of working and studying...all it did was make me excessively nervous and my muscles a bit sore and stiff...this was BEFORE I went full-blown FMS...just after I went full-blown I went off caffeine because of some serious insomnia difficulties, and also I had heard from my support group that it helps lessen symptoms like pain, makes sense since less caffeine means less tension means less stress means less pain in muscles...that's how it has worked for me anyway...sure I have bouts of crushing fatigue but I work through it and have found fast walking and low doses of ADs help me sleep better which helps in turn battle that fatigue...no one could pay me enough to go on caffeine, it was such a challenge to get off it because it is an ultra-addictive substance...again whatever works for whomever is spectacular, but Im a much better person staying away from caffeine and just sticking with water...flushes those toxins right out and keeps my cells and nerve functions normal...

Be well,
Ric

A little over a week later, all I have to say is I WANT MY COFFEE BACK!! I'm beginning to think that having energy is worth a little additional soreness.. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/yawn.gif
