Hi everyone!! I have not posted here in a while. My pain is starting to get better but my depression is worse has anyone else had this happen to them?

I've personally found that as far as fibromyalgia is concerned, if it's not one thing, it's another..

On days that my pain seems especially bad, I usually have decent mind days.. On days that my mind is shot, I don't usually hurt as badly..

Of course I also have a lot of days when my mind and body are both useless, but those generally fall into the big time flare category..

I'm not sure if it's the same way with everyone else, but I know that seems to be the way it works with me..

From observations of our daughters, depression and restless is the first sign that they are getting better. I think it is because there bodies have energy to do something other than cope with the pain and they are not quite able to do other things, like a little excerise, to burn that energy.

From observing our daugthers, depression and restless is the first sign that they are beginning to feel better. I think that the body is no longer using this energy to cope with the pain and is not yet able to do more, as excercise, to use the energy productively. Psychologically, because the body feels a little better but not well enough to do something, it is depressing because it almost could do something. The energy has to go somewhere.

Usually I am not in severe pain AND depression simultaneously. My shrink said that your body and mind can only process one huge thing at a time;eg, if you were nursing a toothache, but your fire alarm went off, your awareness would not be on how crummy your mouth felt! Folks with FMS often have clinical depr, which may be a result of the FMS messing up your serotonin...Lately I have been despondent, because I am so blasted sedated all the time. Hard to keep your mood up, when you're bleary-eyed!Al

Depression can be for so many reasons, so that's real hard to determine. It could be a physical reason or just something that has happened because our expectations were not met etc.

If something is less than we want or expect, then it can make us feel low. When that happens for me, I often find that getting away from it all on one of my hikes is great. It's so nice to get away from all the pressures of the job, thinking about health problems, and material concerns. When you are off hiking, you just bring the basic necessities, such as food, water, and warm clothing etc. For a whole day, you survive off of that, shaking off all the clutter of everyday living. You can come back refreshed.

For those that can't go off hiking, sometimes a nice quiet walk somewhere can be really nice or just find some place with peace and quiet. Sometimes we just need a little space....
