Exactly where can I find a Dr. who is board certified in CFS/Fibro? Is there a listing on this site or elsewhere? I appreciate the help (and a special thanks to Kim for your reply last week.)

Hi and your'e welcome,
We found ours on the Co-Cure site.
We were lucky, Our doctor is just 20 mins away. There are many more doctors out there that aren't on the list, so, if you have trouble finding a doc in your area you can call one close to your area and maybe they can tell you what to ask for or where else to look. The reason I say this is, because not all on the list are doctors some are chyropractors, message theropy, etc. When I called and asked for the doctors to call me back I was looking for a new doctor for myself and my husband and we wanted a doctor that is Board certified in FMS. They had to be no more then an hour from my home. The first doctor to call us back was Dr. Katz We spoke for over an hour and then I made the apts to see him for the 2 of us. That was about 17 months ago. The Rhummy was horrible even though he did specialise in FMS he was and idiot and so a new doctor was needed.
I wish I could get this short term memory thing under controll I forgot you name ( is it Tayna?) Sorry,
Hello, Gary here.
Another option is to find the pain center at your local hospital. They don't treat FMS, per se, they specialize in controlling pain. They only treat those with a DX.
If you need anti-depressants, either go to you family docotr or to a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists routinely see people with chronic pain.
The co-cure doctors listing and site is under New To Board.....and other good research info in .......IN A NUT SHELL.

Thanks so much for the info. I was diagnosed yesterday with CFS, but I also have symptoms like acute tight, swollen throat (like allergy), 23 pound weight loss (so far), pain in my spine, and a suffocating feeling in my neck that makes my blood pressure drop and makes me pass out sometimes. Do those symptoms sound like CFS?

Thanks to Kim, I'm seeing Dr.Katz also and he's brought me further in less than a year than I've been helped in the last 10 years! Definitely worthwhile seeking out a board certified FM doc. My rheumy wasn't worth anything past a diagnosis, she not only wasn't at all thorogh but she almost killed me with the medications.............
And to think that I was MEAN to poor Kim way back when! If it wasn't for this board and Kim, I'd still be sitting around in a complete daze, sobbing and wanting to die. I'm not 100% but I'm an awful lot better than I was last year!

Tawnie...the symptoms you are describing with your throat and weight loss sounds like a possible thyroid problem. You might want to read the The Thyroid Board there is lots of really excellant info there. I suspect you will find you probably have more symptoms associated with thyroid problems....with your throat swelling like that I am hoping your physician did thyroid function tests? I have both diagnosis and the symptoms of both are much the same but the thyroid is something that must be taken care of first. Well anyway...just a thought.(the speciality for thyroid problems is an Endocrinologist...although any doctor can diagnosis and treat the problem)...Thyroid problems is another area that some doctors just have no clue about. Take Care.

I had my thyroid checked 3 times, but it was normal. I seem to be developing food allergies now! What's next?

Tawnie - I also have had all the signs & symptoms of thyroid trouble. I have 2/3 of mine removed and have never been given medication because they "claim" I am within the normal limits, although at the very bottom of "normal". I know I'm no doctor but I can't help but believe that part of my problems are due to thyroid. Have you gone to a endoctronologist (spelling???)? I haven't yet but I keep thinking about doing it. I read a lot of the posts on the Thyroid Board and they all hit home. Good Luck to you.

I forgot to mention that I also have developed food and medication allergies that I never had before. I get sick and break out in hives from shellfish, anything with the preservative that I now can't think of the name, it's in almost all processed foods, anyway they affect me not only with the hives but really get the irritable bowel syndrome in full swing. All of this started after the removal of the thyroid, also tachacardia which can be caused from thyroid problems. If my doctor would research it as much as I have he could probably come up with an answer!!

Darlene...I sure hope you heed your own words of seeing and endocrinologist. You would know from reading the Thyroid Board that the Thyroid is the 'Power House' of the body and absolutely everything is controlled by the thyroid. There is a wonderful Endo clinic in Seattle(Virgina Mason) that is very, very good. And would guess that Portland would have an equally good clinic. You would be amazed at how many Fibro symptoms are also Thyroid symptoms...and blood tests are just one of the 'tools' in treatment and diagnosis and 'within normal limits' means nothing if your symptoms are telling you something else. It is you, the patient, that is the deciding factor of the best treatment. If you don't feel good or things are not right with you then a good doctor needs to keep trying different things. Removing so much of your thyroid has got to be causing you some serious problems regardless of what the blood work says...it would benefit you temendously to be seen by a speciality on this issue. They know that 'within normal limits' can be disaster for some. Regular physicians are not trained in this area and because it is a time consuming 'trial and error' kind of treatment they do not have the time to focus on you and should have referred you to an Endo specialist. I hope you can find relief...good luck to you.
