I am 56 years old . I tried to wear bi-focal glasses sometimes ago but I failed.
I felt it is very uncomfortable when I wore that bi-focal. Now I have to take three glasses. The one is “ distance only’ ( when I drive ), the second is “ middle distance” ( when I work to see computer) , the third is “ near only” ( when I read book) , these glasses make me inconvenient , My glasses store's boss gives to me three suggestions.
1) he can offer an expensive bi-focal glasses it is easy to be adjusted than general bi-focal. He
explain to me why but I don’t pretty understand.
2) I can take a bi-focal which can be used to see “ far “ and “ middle”.
3) I can take a bi-focal which can be used to see “ middle” and “ near”.
I don’t know what should I do and hope someone can give to me some
Advices.

Thanks!

I guess if you haven't tried progressives (no-line bifocals), I'd give those a try. They're probably your best bet.

Maybe it is that expensive bi-focal, I will ask the store. but I remember the bi-focal glasses which I tried is " no-line" already, so I am not sure, if all no-line are prograssive or some no-line are other kind of brand,if all no-line are prograssive, I don't need to try again, if not , I can try it.

I have the line bio focal and don't have any problem , it takes getting use to , but the eyes adjust . Now I do have glasses for the computer and like them very much if you get the tri focal it that does mean a lot of getting use to . The no line bio focal can make you dizzy at times to get use to .

It is best to take a glasses to see far and near bio focal and get computer glasses I did and working very well.

Good luck

Efang: I've worn both progressives (no-line) and bifocals with the line. I hated the progressives because I could never seem to get the right focal point. With the lined bifocals you know exactly where you are looking. Since you've already tried the progressives, I agree with Jena you might be happier with a far lens and a close (lined) bifocal and a separate pair of glasses for midrange.

I understand English is not your first language; you inadvertently said something you didn't mean. At least, I hope you didn't mean it!! You said, "these glasses make me incontinent". You might want to look up that word in an online dictionary.:)

Keelac,
I am really sorry because I put a wrong word on my sentence. I want to
say " inconvenient" but I put "incontinent" and didn't find . Thank you for indicating me that mistake . Besides, I will ask my glasses store about lined bi-focal and maybe I will try it.
Thanks again.

"Progressives" are the "expensive" bifocals with no line.
I have 3 pair of glasses and wear them all:
Lined bifocal for computer (top half) and reading (bottom half).
Progressives for a narrow view of everything (wear them when working with people).
Single-focus glasses for distance for driving and watching television or movies.

However, I have had cataract surgery, and have lens implants that do different things.

efang622, Maybe you should ask your eye doctor whether you have the beginning of cataracts. Lenses with cataracts become more rigid in addition to cloudy, which makes it difficult to change focus from near to far. Doctors used to think this was because of aging muscles in the eye, but now they know it's the condition of the lens that causes this loss of ability to change focus.
This is not the same as losing the ability to focus near when you get to our age.

Serious Person, can you check in on the "Lorriem" thread. I posed a question to you.
Thanks!

Okay, Unfortantly we do not have spell checker on here and let be polite for misspelled words Please ! I got a laugh out of it . A sense of humor on her is a good thing .

Please try the line Bioficials this take time to get use to and have to look over the top lense to get down the stairs. Please keep us posted there are the only pair Of eyes you are going to have and must take care of them .

Blessings,

Jena, as far as spelling mistakes go, it was a hilarious one. I hope efang got a chuckle when he looked up the word.
