Hi! I have been ill since 1997. I am on disabilty.
I have seen so many doctors that I have lost count! I went to the MS Clinic in Atanta Georgia a few weeks ago.
I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia but the doctors still think I have something neurological too.
I shake alot and most of my muscles are hard to control. (My speach slurrs, I chatter like someone with terrets, just to name a few symptoms)Most docs lean toward possible ms.
Anyways, This new doctor in Atlanta, started me on a dopamin drug. Its a med they give parkensins pateints. It took me a few days to get used to it. (It triggered the verdigo so I stayed dizzy for a few days) But I find that I dont shake as much! I do get tired faster. But being in small crowds isnt as bad as it normaly is. I dont jabber much. My balance is better. I still have those darn mood swings but not as often.
I dont know if this will help anyone or not but it has helped me. So, ask your doctor about checking your dopamin levels. Could something as simple as a chemical in balance be causing some of this awful illness?
Hope this helps, Margarita aka skeeter

That's great that you may be onto something that will work for you. The dopamine connection is the key as it is the bodies natural "pain killer" and anything that can increase the dopamine levels usually seems to help with pain. I have read about MS drugs and Parkinson drugs and some of them function in this manner which seems to help. My wife has had FM for years and was disabled from it. She recently began using the time release version of ritalin, called Concerta, which gave her instant and major relief from her serious pain when nothing else had worked before. I hope you are on to something as well and I just wish others would or could get this type of help also. Good luck.

What exactly is this medication? Our daughters rheumatologist in consultation with one in Renton Washington is prescribing mirapex, a parkinsons drug. Is this what you are taking or are you taking another drug. The Washington doc has had great success with mirapex, unfortunatly not with our daughters. His name is Andrew Holman and he has self-financed and published several studies.

Hi gruffgriff,
The med I am now trying is carbidopa/levodopa
I have some sort of neurological problem along with the fibromyalgia. Dr. English at the M.S. Clinic in Atlanta is trying me on this for 30 days and then another med for 30 more days. He says that maybe my dopeamine levels are off and this could cause my shakes. I havent shaken as much lately. I also have atypical seizures, (Non brain related seizures), And they seem to be backing off. I havent had as many this month! I do "jabber" uncontrolaby at times. Lately that isnt as bad either. As for the pain, I take oxycotin and a muscle relaxer as needed. (We switch from robaxin to flexerile from time to time.)
I find that with the fibromyalgia, I have great neck pain. This normaly leads to headaches and dizziness. Normaly a muscle relaxer helps ease some of that. ( But I have taken alka seltzer for years for headaches. Even before the Fibromyalgia)
I hope this helps some. Let me know how your daughter is doing. Have a great week!

also, there is a book written by a doctor that has Fibromyalgia. It is: fibromyalgia/myofacial syndrome a survivor manual. It really helped me learn alot about this awful illness. (Not sure of the spelling sorry) Also, there are several great sites on Fibromyalgia that may interrest you.
God Bless, Margarita
