I've had fibro for a while, but have never experienced TMJ-like problems. However, a week ago my gums and teeth started to hurt..this pain spread to my whole jaw and now I can barely open my mouth and am in SO much pain. I'm wondering whether fibro or TMJ has anything to do with it, or if it's just referred pain from my inflamed gums? My gums look a bit inflamed, so I'm going to go to the dentist and see what s/he says. Is it possible for TMJD to come on so suddenly?????? Even the back of my tongue hurts..and my jaw is the most painful!!!! No painkillers are helping, and I'm not sure what to do. Do 90% of fibro sufferers really have TMJD??? :(

Sure do...I had TMJ for a while when first DX with Fibro in 1999. I had so much pain in my jaw that it gave a painful earache and ringing in my right ear. I tried braces, pain meds to no avail. After having radical surgery to remove all of my upper teeth (bad idea...do not let them talk you into this at any time...bone loss is the end result in this and a denture is awful) and denture put in. It did get rid of the pain and ringing in my right ear but geez...there has to be something they can do. Always....always get a second opinion BEFORE Any surgery and always let that be your last resort.
