OK, rzoe,
Not to be harsh, but you need to decide which is more important to you, your life or your fear.
I am overweight and have had two colonoscopies in three years (see my other recent post.) Both times I had to drink the Nulytely (8 oz. every 10 minutes of a gallon jug); my doctor says it's the best way. But other doctors use pills and a suppository, which accomplish the same thing basically but is easier on the patient. I didn't think it was THAT bad! Is it something I'd want to do every week...no, but you can handle it. And the diarrhea is just like having the runs ... again, no big deal. This last time, I chose to have a very light application of the twilight sleep medication; they were going to give me anesthesia but I didn't want any part of that risk. My doctor said I didn't have to have any medication if that's what I wanted and I said OK give me a dash of the versed mixture. I was totally awake the whole time, talking to the doctor and the only time it was a little uncomfortable was toward the end when he had to make a turn. The nurse manipulated my stomach to make it easier and poof, it was over. The first time I had to spend some time in the recovery room before I could go home. This time, I got right up, got dressed and got out of there. Thank God, all was fine, but only the colonscopy could have told me that.
DO NOT mess around with these problems. Just read the stories of some of the people on this board who thought they just had hemmorrhoids and wound up to have colon or rectal cancer.
You can do this. It is not bad. And if all is well, you won't have to go through it again for another 5 to 10 years.
Let us know what happens.

Please please go to the doctor! 99% of the time it's not bad news, but that 1% .....that's what gets you. My mom only went to the doc when she had really bad symptoms, I always wish that she had gone earlier. Please don't worry about your weight, you have to think beyond that. Take care and please keep us updated
