Has anyone been diagnosed with Foot problems. I have a new condition called Plantar Fasciitis-an inflammation of the arch/heal area. It seems my Fm has been much worse since I got it. chicken or the egg or unrelated, I don't know -as usual- but was wondering if anyone else has had problems

I was diagnosed with plantar fascia in 1994( the fascia in my rt foot tore OUCHHHHHH, and subsequently it went into tarsel tunnel syndrome in both feet. I went through being in boot casts on each foot at seperate times, had orthodics made for my shoes, steroid injections and finally after a yr of agony went through the surgery. The rt foot was done in dec of 1995 ( I had a cast on for 6 weeks after surgery and could not weight bear at all. I spent 6 weeks on the couch using a bedside commode,)
I had surgery on the left in feb 1996 and the same recovery, I had excellent results and have had no real problem since then ;-)

I have lots of foot pain. When I was a teenager (and running about 20 miles per week) I was diagnosed with plantar fascilis. I don't think it had anything to do with FMS, although that doesn't mean that your's is or isn't related. I really think that during a flare-up, any pain, whether caused by fibromyalgia or not, is amplified (not scientific - just my own observation).
I hope you're seeing a good podiatrist for that foot!
Blessings,
Susan

Had two foot surgeries around the arch of my left foot for bone spur and excessive scar tissue, respectively.
Had plantar fascitis and Mortons neuroma. The neuroma was surgically removed. I have lots of foot pain, particularly in the am's. Have learned to wear flat shoes and to be very careful doing a lot of walking.
Good walking shoes are a must and in years when I'm having a lot of pain, I wear arch supports.
I also have an interesting situation. I'm off-kilter, one leg, one hip, one shoulder is higher than the other by about 1/4". Makes my skirts & dresses hang funny and throws off my gait. It's bad enough that just about every doctor, therapist and chiropractor who's examined me has commented on it.

I have it too, and im a waitrress (OH MY FEET)
I roll my foot over a tennis ball, and stretch the soles by putting a towel behind the ball of my foot and pull towards me. I also massage my feet (or better yet have someone else do it. These things seem to help me. Cant hurt, i'd give it a shot.

I had a bone spur in my foot that was removed when I was 12, had 1 surgery and then another to clear out scar tissue. Also had a Morton's neuroma in the top of the same foot and had the nerve removed. They had thought at one point that the surgeries and injections had triggered RSD so I went through a series of epidural injections which settled it down. I still have a fair amount of foot pain. Sometimes when I flare, I can't walk in the mornings, my feet are SO tender!
Good shoes are very helpful but I don't do it. Arch supports were also helpful but have to be custom to really be effective, also quite expensive.

I had it. Was unbearable in the mornings. A massage called myofascia massage helps a bit. I finally figured out it was thyroid and not FM and once treated for hypothyroid all fascia related symptoms went away. Plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel, all aches and pains. If your TSH (thyroid test) is over 2 it may be worth looking into thyroid as the problem.

Thanks JB! Tomorrow I WILL be calling my doctor's office about the thyroid test I took. I was told the results of my test were in the "normal" range (no numbers mentioned at all). Now, thanks to your post, I can see that this is not good enough, and I will press them further to provide me with the numbers of my test. Not only am I open to any and every idea, but I willing to try almost anything to get rid of the pain, and all the other symtoms of my FMS too!

I have the same probem with both feet. I've had spurs on both feet for over 25 yrs.! I finally had the surgery for the spurs 9 mo. ago and am having a bad time trying to recover. Still have alot of the pains I had before surgery; pain in top of feet, ankle, arch, but the spur area doesn't hurt since surgery. The Podriatrist was the one that suggested I might have FMS. I went to the Internal Medicine DR. I see and he started me on Amitriptyline 10mg.,Ultram & Tylenol. The meds have not made any difference in the 6 wks. I have been taking them. He said I will have to take them for a long time to expect any help. Does this sound right to you all??
The Amitriptyline doesn't help me sleep and the Ultram doesn't help with the pain. It is Very expensive too. I have all of the FMS symptoms and the Amitr. is making my sugar cravings much worse! Is there something else that I could take?
What is the Neuroma problem? with the feet?
I hope we can help each other and in turn help the DRS. help us!
Thank you all,
Lyndal
