I have naturally long curly red hair. I would rather it be straight but that's usually how things go lol. The problem is that when it dries it gets big and I cant stand it. It just annoys me so I usually tie it back. I feel like I can't do many hair styles with my hair because I don't want it to look messy and frizzy at the end of the day. I have tried hair spray, gel, mousse etc and it works for a little while but in about 2 hours.... poof. There it is again. I would love to be able to leave it down all day but I just don't know what to do with it. Any advice?

I could but it takes me over an hour to straighten my hair and I'm not going to do that everyday.

I sympathize with you, I've had the same problem for years and I live in high humidity New York.

You might try to mix a little coconut oil with your favorite conditioner, don't use too much otherwise your hair might look greasy, experiment with the amount to get your hair just right.
Try not to rinse it out completely.

Once after I did this my 10 year old niece made a comment that I finally got my hair done in the beauty salon because it didn't look frizzy, so I didn't say anything, I made her think it was a professional job!

A hairdresser told me that cheap Suave conditioner works well to tame curly hair but I haven't tried it yet.

Good Luck!

Have you thought about getting a relaxer? I usually use mousse and hairspray to tame my hair. It's also naturally curly and long. I tried John Frieda's hair serum and it worked great. I had no frizz what so ever. I would still use it, but it tends to get a bit pricey.

I have thought about a relaxer. Someone told me that my hair would feel like straw and it would damage it. I think I will just go to a salon and ask someone what the best way to wear my hair is.h

That's a good idea. If I were you I'd go to 3 or 4 different salons to get the best price with whatever they tell you to do. :)

Is your hair fine, medium, thick? I have very curly hair which I color and I live in a humid city, it's 40 Celcius now, 104 Fahrenheit and my curls keep and they can keep for several days.

I don't use mousse, gel, pomades or any such products. Have you ever considered a leave-in conditioner. It doesn't have to say that on the bottle. I leave mine in and define my curls while they're saturated with conditioner using my fingers and then I blow dry for 40 minutes. The curls are sealed in and survive the humidity.

Hope that helped.

I think my hair is medium but it gets really big and thick as it dries and it gets messed up very easily if I don't put some kind of hairspray or something in it. Leave in conditioner makes it really soft and healthy feeling but it doesn't keep it from getting messy and poofy lol. I just wanna keep it less big and nice and neat like it is the first few hours after I style it.

I thought so. Despite being a leave-in conditioner, I would never recommend it to anyone.

I really think you should try another one that doesn't specifically say leave-in. Just leave in your conditioner, define your curls with your fingers and dry with a blow dryer/infuser or naturally if that's what you prefer. If you want a rec, try Herbal Essences. If you don't put too much, it won't be flaky when it dries.

I have curly hair too. The longer it is the more it pulls down & the less curly it will be. Also use a heavy conditioner like a weekly moisturizing conditioner as your daily conditioner to weigh hair down. I also use Abba Nourishing leave-in conditioner...it's the heaviest I could find to weigh down curls. Put a lot in & don't touch your hair until it's fully dry. The oils on your hands help make it frizzy. I have a fan in my room & after I put in lv-in cond. I put it on high while I get ready & I put all windows down in car to wherever I'm going. Once it's dry it should be smooth ringlets...as long as you don't mess w/ it while it's drying. Separate ringlets w/ your fingers or use hair pick to add your style. Layering haircuts help to cut out poufy parts but layering is also done to make hair have curl so it has to be done right. Look at Oprah's hair these days she straightens it & then perms it & it still looks healthy. I think it's just finding the right hair dresser. Hope this helps!
