I was looking at my sons teeth tonight as he has an orthodontist appointment next week. He just had his 12 yr molars extracted this summer because the roots were thinning in the middle. He turned 13 this week and is preparing for braces very soon. As I was inspecting his teeth, I noticed that behind his last molars on both sides (bottom only), he has teeth that are have come in. They have erupted through the gum, but the tissue around it was a little swollen and they certainly weren't in the shape of normal teeth (I think this is due to the swelling). He didn't act as if his gums were particularly painful, but said it was a little sore when he chews back there. I have looked at the anatomy of the teeth on a chart and it certainly looks like these have to be his wisdom teeth. I have never heard of someone this young having wisdom teeth that have actually erupted thru the gums???

As your son has had his second molars removed the wisdom teeth will come through much sooner. If you are worried ask the orthodontist.

Hahaha. Makes me feel like a freak.
Because all of my wisdom teeth have been growing (and erupted through the skin) since i was 11-12 years old, and i still have all my molars.
And now im only 14 and they are almost fully grown.

Hmm. So i'm not sure if me and your son are abnormal, or its normal to grow your wisdom teeth at this age.

Weird. Now i understand why no one ever believed me when i said "I think my wisdom teeth are growing"...
